As I mentioned in an earlier post, I'm working under the hood of my 84 GW. The "gas canister" is greatly in my way. Since the vent bowl sensor is already toast and not connected electrically, what harm would there be in removing the canister and plugging the lines? Does it really do anything other than emissions control?
Thanks

The charcoal can? It suck up the spare gas vapor, keeping the truck from exploding. (ok, maybe not exploding, but there's a lot bigger fire risk w/o it.)

If you don't know what all those numbers mean, you shouldn't be here.
Not that I am an emissions guru, but at my last "Smog Check" (their tough here in ca) the mechanic discovered that my EGR was not functioning. He traced the problem back to the little vacuum port (the one that sticks up above the others) on the top of the canister. It would seem that there is a diaphragm in there that was leaking, not allowing the correct vacuum (or any at all) to reach the EGR valve. If you are not running EGR and don't have sniffer tests in your state, Then vent your tank elsewhere and be done with it. If you are, then be prepared to spend $80-100 for it.
Good luck...
