This topic has probably been asked previously but I have missed it.

When putting gas into my 77 Cherokee Chief it takes forever. Seriously, it can take fifteen minutes to put five gallons in.

I have checked the vent hose and it is not blocked. Whoever designed this thing was an idiot.

Any ideas or suggestions. Winter will be here and I don't want to freeze again, thanks.

Put in the hose then turn it counter clock wise till it's totally upside down.
That's the only way mine will fill normally.
I know what you mean. I was driving between Las Vegas and L.A. when I bought mine and it was winter, raining and it would pump less that a gallon and click, stop over and over again.

This has got to be one of the most annoying things about my FSJ. I have noticed that it depends on the type of gas pump nozzle. The newer ones with the long anti gas fumes plastic thing it horrible to try to get it pump gas but the older ones I have better luck with.

I have the same prob on my 79, I found it is easier if I put upward pressure on the back of the gas handle. Forcing the nozzle down, it cuts out much less this way.

I remember seeing a tech article somewhere on how to make the gas flow into the tank better. It involved putting bigger tubeing on or something. I've spent the last 30 min. trying to find it. It was on one of these jeep sites. Can't remember where. But, I bet it will help you out.

I know I said this before, but here it is again. It is very easy to learn but you can never explain it to a gas station attendant, it just can't be done. http://www.cs.colostate.edu/~zeimet/ubb/biggrin.gif

If you insert the nozzle of the fuel delivery pump in and slowly pull it back as you sqweeze the triger all the way. It will shut off until you get to a certain point where the nozzle is about half way in. It works with mine on every fuel nozzel i've tried. It takes a couple of tries to get it right with different nozzles.

The only down side is that you can never go back to a full service gas station again!(it takes them forever) http://www.cs.colostate.edu/~zeimet/ubb/mad.gif

I am installing a 3" body lift on my waggy so I was under it looking around for stuff (you know) and happend to look at my fill/vent hoses and they have a trap in them just like under your sink. When the lift is in the droopy hoses should straiten out allowing the gas to flow better. If I wasn't putting the lift on I would probly shorten the hoses up a bit to see if that would put some lift in them. Lift first, gas later. I will soon see.

ive never really noticed slow filling with my 85,but installing a 3 inch body lift was one of the first things that i did. like irbob said, this prolly straightened them out quite a bit. i wouldnt think that the fill hoses would be different in 77 and in 85,but i guess thats possible...
