Go with what you know. Stick with the Mobile 1 if you have had good luck with. Though I do feel that all synthetic motor is superior to conventional. Good luck with the overhaul. By the way, wait until about 1500 miles before you put the synthetic in to give your bearings adequite time to break in.

I cant vouch for the different brands of synth's. But have tried a few of the Semi-Synthetics with good results they seem to be a bit cleaner. But my biggest testament to synth's was in quad's, I noticed dramatic differences when changing from normal mineral based oil in my gearbox to a pure synth gear lube (ie. bellray gearsaver or other) made that thing shift twice as smooth.. and have used the pure synth oils in 4-stroke crankcase's and as a two stroke fuel mix oil. It's definitaly way better in my opinion(the two stroke mix wouldnt seperate from gas like mineral based oil does after time). Again cant recommend which brand is best.. and also its super expensive so better make Dang sure you dont have oil leaks.. pretty expensive to be pouring this stuff thru a motor .. .. theres my .02 Party On!

If Mobile 1 is good enough for those Nascar and pro dragsters. It can probably handle a GW. Probably.... http://www.cs.colostate.edu/~zeimet/ubb/smile.gif
Oh, always wanted to know the actual reason why one is not supposed to put synthetic oil in a new engine? There has to be a better reason than just, "My uncle grease monkey said so."

Jerry,
The reason you don't put sythetic oil in a "new" engine, is because the synthetic oil is too good. It is so slick, that the bearings and piston rings will not seat. At least that's what my grease monkey uncle tells me. HA

Rudy,
I bought a new Saturn in 94 and after the break in period I switched to Quaker State synthetic only to hear the lifters rattle like crazy during the first 10-15 seconds every morning. I had always used Mobil-1 in my previous vehicles, so I immediately switched to Mobil-1 and the morning rattles went away. The oils were the same viscosity, so I don't know what the problem was with the Quaker State oil. I haven't had any experience with any other brands besides Quaker State. I'm also running Mobil-1 in my 87 Wagoneer and it loves it!

Seen As how I work at Mobil Serivce in good ol' Zeeland Michigan, I would have to say that Mobil 1 has worked really great in my vehicles. I run it in my '79 Grand Prix, my '90 GW, and my brother also runs it in his cars. When you drain it out, it is just as thin, and still pretty clean, as when you put it in. Great stuff, especially at my discount!
