View Full Version : Air in rear wheel cylinders

My 1988 Grand Wagoneer has all new brake system; rotors, calibers, master cylinder, drums, pads, shoes, combination valve, etc. About every 6-8 days, the rear wheel cylinders get full of air and the brake warning light comes on. I have bleed them so much that I have a stock pile of brake fluid in my garage. I cannot see any signs of fluid loss or leaks. I have also tried three "new" master cylinders-that's not the problem. I am sure when I bleed them, all the air is removed-over a pint of fluid between the two rear wheels. I am at a loss to figure out this problem. Has anyone got any suggestions???

I'll second that. The only way to pull the air in is with a bad cylincder, or a leak somewhere's in your line. Keep in mind it may only leak under pressure, and that pressure may cause it to squirt out - thus a lack of a very noticable fluid trail.
The issue may also be in one of the wheel cylinders. I would get a buddy to beat on the brake pedal while you crawl around looking for leaks. No fun, but it should get the job done.
Good luck,
