Does anyone know how the Emergency Drive indicator light is controlled? Is is a switch mechanism similar to the back-up light switch? Where is the control located?
Thanks

Is it for a Q-trac?
In the transfercase. If you crawl under the passenger side and look up on top of the case over the driveshafts you will see the twin vacuum diaframs for the E drive control. If you reach up on top there is a flat plate on top. It has the vent cap or a vent hose like mine. There ahould be a wire connnected to that plate also and thats were the switch is for the E drive. The shaft on the vacuume selector pushes up under the switch when its on E drive.
I dont remember which diaphram engages the E drive. The outside one or the inside one.

the diaphram has 2 nipples on it. forward and rearward.
the forward nipple is used to engage E drive, and the rearward is to disengage.
when E drive is engaged, the plunger shaft within the diaphram pushes up on a detent ball located at the bottom of the light switch, closeing the contacts and iluminating the light...
