So what kind of fluid do I put in my NP229 trans-case? and how much do I need to change it?

You will need six pints of Dextron II to fill that baby up. Have fun.

3 quarts of the same ATF that your tranny uses.

Ok today I went over to my buddies nice barn (with a really deep pit, deep enough that its just over my head and I am like 6'2.5". so you stand on a metal stand.. anyhow.. there was definatly not 3 quarts in it when I drained it. I bought a hand pump for pumpin kerosene out of a can into a heater.. and trimmed off the intake tube to just longer than needed to go anywhere in a quart bottle of ATF>> and pumped 3 quarts of ATF into my NP229.. it was flowing out of the top hole pretty good when i was done and i waited till it was chilling out a bit and put the plug in.. i ran it down the road in 4HI(fulltime) and then out in the sandpit in 4LOW. and then back into 2wheel now... so I was successfull I think...

Good job Clark, I think I will through away all my manuals. All I need is this forum.

Clark that's how you fill any gear box, trans, diff whatever. Pour it in slow till it starts coming back out the fill hole. The capacity numbers the manuals state just give you a clue as to how much juice to buy.
