Part time owners do your like the converted case? If anyone has the overdrive conversion what do you think of it? Somewhere, I read a post by someone who didn't like the overdrive. When you shift into 4wd does it feel like an ordinary part time case when you drive it?

I removed the cover of a PT case I recently acquired and found out that it appears to be the overdrive conversion. The drive sprocket is substantially larger than the ouput sprocket. I get about 1.2 revs of the output for every turn of the drive sprocket. So does this mean the case takes a special chain?

Dave, I'm pretty sure(99%) the converted QT uses a different chain than a stock QT but don't know if a converted QT uses a different one than a converted one w/OD? Ya might want to drop 4WD Hardware a line they sell the chains and I think the MM PT kits too. http://www.4wd.com/

I have a converted QT w/o OD in my truck and like it. It was in it when I bought it but I've driven quite a few stock QT's too and they are excellent x-cases stock. I personally wouldn't want the 16% OD because it affects the LO range as well.
Would I spend the $500 to convert a QT to PT...no not on an old rig, maybe a new one though. But I don't see where the $500 gain is.
Just for gas mileage references(seems to be what everyone's concerned about), My 360 has 170,000 miles, never been opened, burns no oil but it is getting tired http://www.cs.colostate.edu/~zeimet/ubb/frown.gif QT has never been opened except for the PT conversion at around 40,000. The TH400 has never been opened and the axles are stock 4.09 gears and I get 10 mpg. Would I get worse if it wasn't converted? I doubt it on a 170,000 mile rig.
Does a converted QT feel like a regular PT case in 4WD? Yup also just exactly like what a conventional QT feels like in E-drive. The vac switch now has the same 2WD/4WD function as a shift stick does on a PT case like say a D20. No matter what x-case you run PT, FT, PT/FT (ohhh here we go again) http://www.cs.colostate.edu/~zeimet/ubb/wink.gif or how you get to "locked 4WD" once you're locked it's all the same. No dry paved roads, stiff heavy steering, noisy etc but you will go farther http://www.cs.colostate.edu/~zeimet/ubb/smile.gif

Joe, I agree, the PT is probably not worth spending $500 bucks on. I actually got this t-case for $50. A guy had it sitting around in his garage. Apparently, he parted out his J10 a few years back but kept the QT and ton of other stuff from all kinds of cars. Wife was making him clean out the garage. He seemed **** glad to get rid of the t-case.

Anyway, Mile Marker's online catalog would seem to indicate that it uses the stock chain. Guess, I will give one of their distributors a call.

i agree with joe-any mileage gains will be insignificant. the best reasons for actually spending $500 is to eliminate vibes caused by very big lifts,or so you can add hubs and a front locker, and still be able to steer on the street with the hubs unlocked.
