I have the factory 2.73's still in my '82 J10 with AMC 20 rear end. Just was wondering if I have one piece or two piece axles, and how can I tell.
Also when looking through a catalog I noticed there is a diference in housings if you had a factory numericaly high axle ratio or low ratio. What is the difference and can I get 4.10 gears to fit my axle housing. http://www.cs.colostate.edu/~zeimet/ubb/confused.gif
Much appreciated

Shane, all model 20 axles used in the big Jeeps have one-piece axles.
So far as different housings for different ratios go(?) I don't know but the factory parts manual only lists one axle housing p/n for all model 25 J-trucks from 80-86.

different housings?! http://www.cs.colostate.edu/~zeimet/ubb/eek.gif ive never heard of any differences in housings. there IS a difference in carriers.the 2.73 uses a different carrier than anything numerically higher.in order to swap in 4.10 gears, youll need new front and rear carriers. the 44 uses a one carrier for gears from 2.72 to 3.73,and a different one for 3.92 and up.
