I've got a 1964 J300 with a bad pressure line from the clutch master cylinder to the clutch slave cylinder. I either need a replacement(which I haven't been able to come by) or some other solution. I tried high pressure hose with fittings but the problem is that the fittings are too short. I still get a fluid leak. They are only short by about a millimeter or less but its just enough.
Also, anybody know what the proper tightening would be for those types of connections? I could possibly tighten it more but I don't want to strip the threads on the slave cylinder.

how about a piece of brake line? with a flaring tool you could make up a short piece a coupla inches long with a male end +a female end.stick one end on the end of hose, and t'other on the slave cyl. having said all that, are you sure you havent cross threaded the fitting? that's real easy to do.try loosening up both hose connections and the bolts that hold sl/cyl to b/hsng retighten fittings, then titen sl/cyl bolts. if that doesnt werk then try extension. good luck

Thanks andy. Do you know where I could pick up a flaring tool. Is that a trak-auto/pep-boys type of tool or would I have to find it at NAPA or special order?

does that line use a 45 degree flare or a 37 degree flare??.... high pressure lines use 37 degree flare ie: Earls braided
single flare brake lines use a 45 degree flare...
so.......if you used a high pressure line that has a 37 degree flare and the slave is a 45 degree it will leak!

I think that's it BartG! The flares do look to be slightly different and upon even closer comparison I found that the diameter of the new fitting is a bit smaller than the old one. Very small, but big enough to squirt fluid everywhere.
Good thing I put down some cardboard first http://www.cs.colostate.edu/~zeimet/ubb/biggrin.gif
