I am looking at swapping in my D44's,engine and tranny from a 79' Wag into a 78 Cheif. I was wondering if there are any differences between the 2. They both have Quadratrac and the Cheif was set up with a auto trany. Also are the springs on the Cheif any taller. I am looking at this swap because the Cheif body/frame is in good shape and I prefer the 2 door style.
Thanks

The front and rear axles are wider on the Cheif, as are the corresponding steering linkages and brake-hoses. If you put the Wag axles under the Chief, the tires will likely rub the inner fender.

The rest of the drivetrain and the springs will work, however.

As Bob said the Wag axles are narrower than a WT Chero's. 6" narrower.
