Just to let you guys know I finally after 2 years fixed my pinging problem. It would rattle at full throttle anytime over 3,000rpm on WOT. I had the biggest jets Edelbrock makes to cover up the ping, so as you can imagine it was really rich. So I finally check my total advance, I had 60 degrees at 3,000rpm. So I striped down the dizzy and got a HEI curve kit and used one heavy spring and one light spring, (old drag racers trick), bingo it fixed the pinging problem. I have the initial at 12 degrees and I have 36 degrees total at 3,000rpm. She pulls like a raped ape now!!!! No ping and I can run leaner jets and not kill myself on the rich smell. Just thought I'd share....... :D

Travis - what HEI kit did you use, and are you using the Duraspark dizzy?

Cliff:
Yes I'm still using the old Duraspark. I just got the HEI standard kit that most local part stores have, I had to mod one side of the spring a little to get it on the clip, just a little stretching really.

what do you use the dial for. (when its at 3000 rpm) do you rotate the dial till the timing marks line up w/ TDC? same as when checking initial advance?

You got it!!Nice trick!! A friend got one last year and we have been having fun with it ever since. =)
Makes it REALLY easy...no more counting lines....just set the dial.
