Does anyone know if you can lube speedo cables or do you just have to replace em? Mine makes noise all the time and was wondering how do deal with it.

DLyons replied:
Yes you can lube the cable. The hardest part is tearing apart the dash to get to it. Remove the instrument panel and disconnect the cable from the speedometer. Next use a needle-nose pliers to pull the inner cable from the cable housing. I coated my cable with wheel bearing grease and reassembled the cable. You may have to spin the cable the last inch or so to align the squared end.

ok so its ok to lube them thats what i was really after. I would think you could use a cable luber and some synthetic chain or cable lube like we use on motorcycle clutch cables but the chain lube is rather sticky and might cause the cable to bind since it rotates instead of just goin back and forth in a sheath. well thanks for the info. ill lube mine somehow

Narnian replied:
Usually, by the time you hear it, it's too late. Good luck, and let us know if you rescued it in time!

irbob replied:
I remove mine from the transfer and use white litheum grease. Some cables wont come out that way but nothing a little mod didn't fix while the dash was apart.

andy d replied:
i tend to agree with narnian. course it could be dry speedo gears too. But thats usually a cold weather prob.
