Will a NP 208 bolt up to a 727 auto trans? The TC is an 81 and the 727 is an 80. The reason for the swap is I want to pull a 5th wheel or trailer and feel the auto would be better for pulling, yet keep the part time 4WD feature of the 208. I would think there are J20's with the auto-parttime combo. If so does anyone have the spec. on length of drive shafts? Thanks for any info.

a jeep 208,right? the gm version has a different input spline.

the 208 is about 6 inches shorter than the 229.what do you have now? are you swapping trnnies,or swapping t cases? if youre swapping trannies, ive got a 727 id trade you...

The 208 was used in both manual and auto FSJ's. Don't know if there are any differences other than the shift pattern is opposite between the manual and AT versions.
As Scotty mentioned make sure it's a Jeep 208 not a GM 208. The Jeep versions are drivers side drop and the GM's are passenger side drop which won't work with your front diff on the drivers side.

yeah-youll need a very expensive custom driveshaft to get it from the driver to passenger side! http://www.cs.colostate.edu/~zeimet/ubb/biggrin.gif maybe you could make it from something flexible, like a big spring or something...

lets see-what manual trannies were offered with the 208? possible t18a,t176,or t-5 depending on engine and year? all of those trannies should use the same 23 spline output as the autos.only real light duty trannies(ax-5,and one other) got 21 spline. i hope a 21 spline tranny never came in a full size jeep! http://www.cs.colostate.edu/~zeimet/ubb/eek.gif the manual tranies use a real live shifter, not the plastic flag deal.this is why the pattern is backwards-just the difference in how the shifter pushes or pulls the t case lever. the t case should be the same weather it comes from a manual or auto.
