View Full Version : PorkChop Cam Bearings
Bryant,
Are you going to replace you cam bearings with the new camshaft ? How much trouble was it to change the camshaft and who did you finally go with ? (Crane, Edelbrock, Blue Racer, stock). I am thinking of doing the sam thing after the first of the year.
Thanks,
GRAT

No I did not need to replace the bearings. I tested them before I pulled the cam. I test bearings at work all the time so I am pretty good at it. It was a lot easier than I thought to do it. The hardest part was pulling the time chain cover and the harmonic balancer, you need a puller for that. I borrowed one from Todd. It is the same puller as a steering wheel puller. Once you have it all a part just slide it out real easy making sure you don't slam it against the bearings..... I will call you and explain it better. Email your number to me if you want me to call. I can not stand to type.
The brand I went with was Summit Racing. The cam kit was $84.95. It comes with cam, lifters and pre-lube. Jeep sounds much better and I can fell the power that was not there before (I was only running off of 7 cylinders).

I'm glad you tried a cam from Summit. I keep telling people that they're just as good as any of the name brands sold in their catalog. Made with the same equipment, same materials, etc. Probably somebody I went to high school with ground that cam for you.

Thread a long bolt of the appropriate size into the end of the cam. It makes it much easier to "control" so you don't nick the cam bearings. Do the same when you install it.
