Trying to decide the relative merits of full-time v. Part-time 4wd. FT 4wd sounds advantagous in most situations especially rain or snow. But if the QT works the way I think it does you could conceivably get into a situation where three wheels are on pavement on one wheel is on ice and all torque goes to the wheel with no traction? I guess you could avoid this with ED engaged though. Even with the above mentioned drawback PT doesn't provide an anwser to the problem. Especially, when you are driving to Jackson in the winter over long periods where the road alternates between dry, icey, and snowy pavement. Seems like FT with a limited slip in rear might be best.

or use a rear air locker...turn it on and the ice tire wood not spin more than the othrs...turn it off, and u dont have any scary spins in the turns...

the quadra trac setup works very well. if your clutches are still in good shape, and youre using the correct lube, the clutches are likely strong enough to continue to propell you forward over a spot where 1 tire is on icethe rolling resistance of the truck on flat ground probably isnt great enough to cause the center diff to slip the power out to the icy wheel, unless you stop, and put your foot on the floor, then it may spin...

i think an open diff is best for street driving- a locked up or limited sliped axle with both wheels spining can get you into trouble, especially while turning,or of the road is slightly slanted.

an air locker gies you the best of both worlds-safety of an open diff, along with the lower driveline stress that sometimes coes from a locker or spool, and the ability to 100%lock it up when you need it. id sell my first born to the jeep gods for an arb for both axles...

I gotta go with ya Scotty.... If the price of the ARB wasn't almost a mortgage I would get two myself. I found a guy (local) that has 2 Detroit lockers for sale. Gotta go look at 'em soon.

This PT-FT operation, actuation, verbation, modes useage, whatever you want to call it has got me getin's a headache.

It's all in the verbage, man!!! Read this:

If you got a full-time that you use part-time sometime or anytime you want...do use the part-time full-time or just sometime? Any time you get a full-time and use is part-time sometime or all the time, should be a good time to get a part-time for full-time so anytime you go you got your part-time working full-time...
