Trac bars?

I have an 88 grand wagoneer.. thinking bout doin the skyjacker 4" system.. what do ya do about the front and rear trac bars? dont they make the axle's try to move to the drivers side?? or do ya just take em off?

Good question.... one of our fellow Extremist by the name of Mark jsut fabbed his own trackbar for wheelin' with his 42's. I am waiting to see the pics of them. I think you may be able to get an aftermarket one... but not sure. My buddy bought a telescopic trackbar for is YJ. Follow up on this one... I'm curios too... my 78 didn't come with one... but might want to add one for stablity.

Ive seen adjustable trac bars for xj's and m'js and the like. on those the frame end has a tierod-end type joint.. those just have a longer bolt there that is adjustable.. i think an sj one would have to have a break in the middle mabye and have each end threaded into a coupler. i see trucks all the time dogtracking like he*l cause people dont figure this stuff out before they lift em .. I like to drive behind em and do my own little rating system on how bad it is heheeh
anyway rusty's offroad has the adjustable tracbars's for xj's and on theyre site there is one place where it says "coming soon full sized jeeps" so .. we'll see what happens on that..

On the same topic, Ive been wanting to fix my front tracbar, one of the bolts is broken on one end. I want to replace both bushings on this thing but have no idea where to find a supplier. All the shops I talk to say replace the whole thing http://www.cs.colostate.edu/~zeimet/ubb/confused.gif Any suggestions?

Southwest 4x4 in Harrisburg, Ohio, installed a Skyjacker lift in my buddy's '89 GW. John, the owner/mechanic, simply drilled new holes in the existing brackets in order to make the slots longer. The Jeep rides beautifully and is owned by Troy: scout31297@aol.com.

one of the first things i did to my jeep was to remove the sway bar and front/rear trac bars. its obvious why trac bars are needed with coil springs,but i cant really figure out why a leaf spring doesnt do a good enough job keeping the axle located that one needs trac bars? a friend of mine has a 79 gmc(apples and oranges,maybe) with 6 inch tuff country lift,no sway bar or trac bar,and it drives very nice-much nicer than youd think a lifted pickup with 33 inch mud tires would!

i never drove mine before and after to know how much difference the trac bars made.big tires tend to pull you around anyway,they find every little crease and dip in the road. i do know that they made a night and day difference in articulation.
