After replacing all vacuum lines(as per schematic)
and tune-up,running really good. From cold start to
shut down after driving over an hour on highway, runs great;no gas oder.A few minutes after shutdown, there is a gas oder present inside of vehicle.Real strong in the morning. Can't find any evident leaks. No leaks from bottom of vapor canister.Question--the fuel tank has a vapor line
towards the rear of tank, and a vent line towards
the front of tank(designations as per Haynes manual.)These 2 are Y'ed into 1 going to canister. Is this correct? Also the purge signal
in canister won't hold a vacuum, but there is no gas oder around canister. How is the tank actually
vented:trough cap,out of tank,through vapor AND
vent lines to canister, then "scavenged"through PCV?

believe it or not, when my powervalve and my accelerator pump diaphram was shot I was getting the same thing as you describe. Changed them, the smell went away.

INdeed that would happen, but carb was just rebuilt, and it really has'nt ran better since all
of the "surgery" I've been doing(ie. tuneup,emmi-
ssion troubleshooting/repair of ALL the components).

... When a vehicle is stopped the exhaust system has less air flow to carry the heat away. That extra heat can warm up the fuel tank and expand the fuel hoses opening up cracks and venting vapor. Try checking the vent hose that goes into the fuel filler neck just behind the wheel-well.

Have a good one http://www.michiganjeepers.com/forums/images/graemlins/popcorn.gif and CUL.. Don S..

Bobby,I had the same problem with my 79 Chero. In my case it turned out to be rotted fuel lines on top of the fuel tank off the sending unit.Replaced those and it went away.

Thankyou for info. that makes sense.I think what
I'll do is replace ALL involved fuel/vapor lines
with marine grade rubber hose, eliminating any possibility of current or future leaks in those hidden areas along the frame.I'd still like to know if the routing of the vapor/vent lines I mentioned before is correct.
