Mass., and Conn. HAMs

Any Mass. or Conn. HAMs out there? If so where do you listen on 2M, and 6M ? Is there any kind of IFSJ "Round table" type event in existance? If not maybe one should be formed ;) Possibly a better way to explain problems, and solutions. It would be nice to have someone to talk to, or talk you thrugh a procedure. What do ya think?

I need to tune my CB. I just got it a little while ago, have never had one before and need to adjust the antenna somehow. Do you know what that meter is called that helps tune the reception? Am I even describing the right thing? I remember the radio shack manual mentioned playing with the distance that the top half of the antenna sticks out of the black thing half way up the stick.

What you're describing is an SWR meter (standing wave ratio) they sell them at Radio shack, probly $15.00-25.00. A good thing to have. Hook it up between the antenna and cb, the meter should come with a small lenght of cable for that. Put your cb on channel 20 key up and the needle should be near 1:1. Raising or lowering (cutting off a small piece at a time) will bring it closer to 1:1. Just be sure it will help to shorten it....you can't add on. Hope this helps.

By the way, I was refering to the antenna as far as raising, or lowering. Yes where the "black thing" ( the load ) is , is where the adjustment screw should be.

I'm sure there are a bunch, me included. Unfortunately I'm pounding more keyboard keys then CW paddles. Too many hobbies, too little time, hamradio, FSJ, Apache camper, home improvements, kid's T-Ball, soccer etc. The only use my 2M handheld got is Hosstrader and MIT hamfest.

No, I'm not part of the MARS program, not farmiliar with that. Yes I have seen the other post, seems like lots of info, but not really what I'm looking for. Thanx for the info though!!
