Yeah, I am looking to convert my 81 J10 to buckets. the bench is in great shape, but I dont like how its higher in the center thent he sides. Plus I just prefer buckets.

I got a set of those BestTop seats (made for CJ's/Wranglers). They are great in the Wag. A million times better than the crappy seats FSJ's came with. Plus, with some simple fabrication, you can make them work with the factory power seats.

When I had my wag I used some buckets out of a late 90's Subaru. Picked them up at a yard for 45 bucks if I remember right. Very very comfy. A bit of fabrication to make them fit, but well worth the effort.

dome, bentpushrod,
do your seats sit up any higher than the stock seats?

I'm looking at using a set of ZJ or WJ leather seats...

J10Mike,

Mine didn't, I adapted the subaru seats to fit the stock wagoneer brackets, so they sat at factory height.

I just used some rx7 seats and my friend stephen used honda prelude seats.

mikeYes, slightly, due to the bracket I fabricated so that I could use the seats with the factory power seat frame.

However, I believe that the seats will bolt directly up to the manual seat frames, in which case, I do not see any reason why they should sit higher than the stock seats.

Great topic J10Mike.
I put 85 GW power seats into the 70 wag, a big step up from the original bench seat but they provide very little lumbar support and were very jaring at Ouray and the 1,100 there and back. I would like to keep the power seat brackets and find something more accomodating for my spine.

These in the lil jeep are Ford Explorer leather. All power and really comfortable. Plus they are easy to find...Can you say "rollover?"

I will check and see if the brackets are stock or custom.

cary,
it seems that i read somewhere in another post some time back that someone stated that explorer/mountaineer seats were an excellant replacement seat for fsj. i just need to see if the brackets need to be modified or if the seats will be somewhat raised height wise over the stock seats.

The seats sit a little higher in the little jeep. The shifter knob needs about a 1" extension, but the 400way power seats make it ok. Not near as annoying as the game of twister you have to play to use the emergency brake with that D#$^ full roll cage.

I bet they would look really nice in a Fullsize, but my waggy is no where near ready to worry about the insides yet.

cary,
do the seats push forward? like if you were to want to put something behind the seat.

I would think that since they make a 2 door Explorer that they would, I will check next time I drive the Jeep. It is our Shop Toy and I usually get it when I need it or it needs something done to it.

I put seats from a 84 CJ-7 in my wag. I used the seat mounts from an 84 wag and they bolted right up.

Bucket seats out of a '98 F350 Centurion- ones of those "Cowboy Cadillac" dually rigs. The drivers seat is a 6-way power seat and the passenger's seat is manual that folds down. Don't have them installed yet but all I have to do is bolt them in. Used the brackets from a Chero with buckets and all it took was a little fabbing. The seats are a plush velour and very, very comfortable.

I plan on using Fiero seats, the ones with the speakers in the headrest, some new speakers, and you have yourself a sweet setup.

If you want a factory style high back bucket look at a Volvo. They generally have a high back racing style seat with electrics also.

Pep Boys has 3R Racing seats on sale right now. They range from $160 to $220 in fabric, vinyl and leather. All fitted for 5 point harnesses. I'm getting a set for the front of my GW, might eventually go with 2 buckets in back and dump my rear bench seat.

I figure if I use the original sliders/brackets I should be able to bolt it in fairly easily. Maybe drill a few holes in the bottom of the seeats. I'll report back when they're in. I'll have a sweet set of originals for sale when I'm done too.

I just got some Steel Horse CJ/YJ replacement high-back bucket seats with forward and backward movement for $138 a pop from Summit Racing. They are liquidating their Steel Horse aftermarket seats, so hit them up and score some of these seats...they are awesome! They mounted right up to my existing tracks.

I just took out the old excuse for an armrest and made sure the thing was centered and drilled holes, bolted to secure, and presto. 30 minutes max.

OK, got the Bestop sport seats in. An absolute direct bolt in! There's three threaded holes per corner so they fit more than on vehicle and like I said they bolted right up. Very comfortable. Only thing is they don't fold forward for access to the rear seat. They do have a nice big dial to recline the seat though and it only takes a few seconds to recline it forward all the way. Oh yeah they got big map pockets on the back too.

I'll take some pics this weekend, I gotta get my avatar up :D so I'll snap a couple of the inside.
Yeah I'm definitely feelin' a little higher up than the old ones. It's almost like driving a different vehicle but in a good way! Overall a great mod.
Oh and BTW I called Quadratec and told them that they might want to include FSJs in their ads since it was a literal bolt in deal, see they told me when I ordered the seats that they won't fit, I just said yeah, yeah. I'll make 'em fit. Well it was alot easier than I thought.

About 11 or 12 years ago I installed a pair of Flo Fit seats. They were a bit firm at first, but eventually broke in. I did have to repair some collapsed foam, but it was not difficult. Just now the fabric is starting to show signs of wear.

hi guys,
i acquired a pair of power seats and doors with power windows and locks from a 84 grand wagoneer.
does anyone know what kind of amperage these items draw? this is probably a question for someone who has access to service manuals.

Al, I actually got mine from Quadratec 'cause they're out of Pennsylvania and I figured the shipping would be cheapest. It cost almost $15 to ship and about $195 each.
Oh yeah, I got the sport model not the pro. They were about $50 more a pair.

I installed a set of buckets from a 98 Grand Cherokee that I bought for parts. They sit a little higher but are very nice considering the price...free smile.gif

I have buckets ( from another FSJ, just can't remember what kind...
...been 5 years or so ) in my 4-door cherokee that had a bench. of course we had to drill a lot, but the buckets are a helluva lot better than the silly lowback bench seat that it camewith. Plus, I can lean back to take a nap now, if I want.....

Got a pair of buckets out of a 95 Ch*vy pick-up. Did a bit of rivit removal to get the old brackets off, bolted up my Waggy brackets and haven't had a problem with them yet.
