Closed knuckle questions

I have a 82 J10 that the previous owner installed a Dana 44 with closed knuckle drum brakes, I can live with the large turning circle but since I use this truck to tow a race car to local tracks, I want to save my adreniline for the race not the trip to the track. I've heard that you can swap from drum to disk with the proper parts, or do I have to change my entire front end?

Take a look at them.
The CJ & Willys folks have been doing that swap for years.

In my opinion, you could probably swap out the front axle cheaper. Around here, the junk yards sell front axles for about $150-$200.

By the time you buy calipers, brackets, rotors, pads, remove the old brakes, weld on new brackets, etc, you would have more invested in parts and time. If you're lucky, you can find an axle with decent brakes already on it.

The front axle under my truck is probably from a early 70's Ford F150 since thats the way I've had to order new shoes,+ I can see the shock mounts have been added, not a bad job, but not factory, plus there's a 31 spline 9in at the rear.3.73fr, 3.7rear I don't use 4x4 a lot but it works fine when I need it. I read what was in the other sections(I realise I posted in the wrong place now,new to computors)I'd rather stick with my present axle+add disk brakes.

i'm looking at ditching the front axle in my 66 j-3000 but can't seem to find any that don't need to be shipped cross country
