Moab isn't very far from Ouray so assuming "Blood" is still in one piece, I'm thinking of wandering over there afterwards..
Anyone thinking of doing the same thing?
Have to warn you though, can be hotter'n you know where in Moab in August smile.gif

I'll be in Moab. I decided not to do the Ouray trip - Bushwood is not up to the task of towing a 5,000lb. trailer 5,000 miles. So, we're borrowing a buddy's F-250 and towing the CJ from VA to Moab for 5 days in the desert!!!

If you guys make it to Moab, let me know, we'll hook-up!

Cool guys smile.gif I'm a member of the Red Rocks Club and I'll see if I can round up Dan Mick or one of the other locals to remind me of all the stuff I forgot smile.gif I'll check and see who's going to be in town smile.gif

Is there somewhere we could stay as a group? Do we need to think about reservations, or since it will be a Monday-Tuesday it won't be a problem. I think I'll have the time, but it means travelling back without the security blanket of a convoy! :(

I'll write Dan Mick, dunno if he's still head of the local club, but I notice he has his own website for "private tours" up now smile.gif hehehehe I'll get some info on what to expect and available locations and post it in this topic so stay tuned.
In Two days we can see a ton of fun stuff, and byepass the 'seriously modified' type areas. I assure you, the scenery there is beyond belief. If nothing big is in town, it could be a wonderful time and place to see it as I note that one of the current mags is decrying the BS that's now going on during Easter Week Safari in Moab. Same old same old about the 'Yahoos" screwing it up foreveryone else. Like I said, stay tuned.

It would be nice to leave Ouray as a group and travel to Moab in a small convoy. Two days is cool by me... I'm off until 25 Aug... wife and kids will LOVE it. they are up for this and I want to go to Moab just to say I've been there!

I have read all too much of Moab that I have to go... even if for a day.

Oracle,

Since you seemed to have got the ball rolling on this one...thanks! ;)

Now let's get some info for camping areas and whatnot...

Riverside Oasis (http://moab-utah.com/riversideoasis/index.html) has group rates ($5) for 20 or more on tent sites.... I have 5 people myself!

$16 for 2 people and $4 each person over 8 yrs old

Kane Springs (http://moab-utah.com/kanesprings/) is 4.5 miles from Moab right on the colorado River!

There is also KOA at Moab (http://moab-utah.com/koa/index.html)
They charge $20 per 2 adults addtional $4 per person over 8 yrs old

there are many more, but these are a few

Here is the inof site I got these from:

It all depends on what trails we'd do in Moab.
I still need to lift my Jeep and bigger tires...
not to mention get it runnin'!

It's on the way back for much of our convoy
(from the FSJ Yahoo-Group boys), I'm sure plenny ub' 'em are up for it.

KOA has a discount card. I think it costs $10. But it gets you 10% off. Staying at KOA wouldn't be bad. I'll go along with you-all. It would be like icing on the cake. I might need to get more memory sticks for the digital camera, though!! :D :D

I was actually planning on going for the two days before Ouray. I could change plans to the day or two after if we want to continue the party!

What I am getting at is that it is a pretty good spell from Ouray to Moab….just wanted to make sure that you aren't thinking that they are only like 1 1/2 hours apart or something.

However, RB, Moab is DEFINATELY worth seeing...even for a day...it really is something! I've done several months in a row with 100% wknd trips there from Provo...I could live there...if I could get a decent job there...

As far as camping...I've paid to camp in Moab one time...it was a mistake...I may be a cheapwad, but we always just drive down the road behind the McDonalds (yeah there is only one) past the tramway (what is that road called....arghhh I've been doing too much painting in enclose spaces  )and around till there is free camping...oh yeah...sandflats road...

As far as enjoying Moab in a moderately modified rig, I hit Poison Spider in my wag with open difs and 31X10.5 BFG muds...Amassa Back kicked my Great Googley MoogleyGreat Googley MoogleyGreat Googley MoogleyGreat Googley MoogleyGreat Googley Moogley but there are several other rides that are doable (although not as much fun :( ) in completely stock rigs. :D not that that is an issue for RB :D

Moab is at least 1 1/2 - 2 hours from Grand Junction. Half freeway, half not. Mark your time to Junction and add 2 hours and your there. I am very jealous I cant make it this year, you guys are gonna love Moab. Bring extra water for you, and for the BEAST!

I'll probably be going thru on the 20th or 21st for a couple of days since we're staying in Ouray a couple extra days. We'll talk more at Ouray and I'll give y'all a holler when we get to Moab and see who's still around. smile.gif

I'm not gonna let you guys have all the fun! Count me in on this one too. FSJ's gotta represent! I've always wanted to go 'wheel Moab. I'd be great to be there with you guys. I'm trailering my J10 with my powerstroke F250 so if I kill the jeep I won't be stuck. My lil' brother just told me he'll be along for the trip. So that's 2 more and a dog for the group camping rates.
