I want to put together a full size jeep invasion at Barnwell Mountain offroad park in Gilmer Texas. If you have never heard of Gilmer it is a public off road park with marked trails ranging in difficulty from 1-5 and 5 being the hardest so if you don't want to scratch a pretty rig you dont have to. You can check out the park at www.texasmotorizedtrails.com (http://www.texasmotorizedtrails.com) for all the info. It would be cool if we could do a friday thru sunday event. What does everyone think??

My FSJ is nearing the stage where I can run it on the road leagally so I'd like to take it for a spin. My 4x4 club is doing their big annual run this weekend down at Shiloh. How about we arrange something for the 29th-31st of March? I have that Friday off. That will give me time to finish the few remaining things (like replacing my starter and tuning the carb) and patch up some of the cosmetic problems with my wag. I can bring along a plethora of camping gear so we can camp in style.

I get every other Friday off so the other weekends that would work for me are the 15th-17th of March or 12th-14th or April. After that, we're starting to get close to the closing date on my house AND the Oklahoma trip so I don't want to plan much for then.

I would love to make a run out there. If you do not mind me ridding with one of you on the fun stuff. I can do some of the granny trails. But my tcase is slipping bad, so I will not even try to climb. Name the date. I would love that! End of March sounds good for me. But I cannot take off that Friday. It would have to be a Saturday and Sunday thing.

That date sounds good to me. I think a saturday and sunday trip would be great. Maybe we can get some more texas people interested.

Brad...Btw...how did you do out there a few weeks ago????

I did pretty good. I ran mostly 4 diamond trails until I lost me rear end. I welded the spider gears because I had not had time to install my spool, and they shattered leaving me broken saturday night. I got it back on the road that next tuesday with the spool so I am ready to go back. I did some fender bending while I was there to so I definately need to finish my rocker protection. I should have it finished in about a week. The bumper worked perfect the one time I got hung up. We had to pull it from the side to get me off a rock and it handled it very well. I can't wait to go back.

So what is wrong with your transfer case?

Michael

Cool....chain slipping. It did it the last time I went to Gilmer on some of the steep grades. Well anytime I wheel it. I put a used tranny in, which has much more torque than my old one and when I gas it hard on the street it really slips bad now. I am planning on being there, I will play on some of the baby trails...but would love to ride with you or Derf on the fun stuff!!!!! Until I get the '79 rollin(trail rig) I will stay away from the fun stuff. The '79 is more capable to beat up if need be. Looking forward to it.

When is a good time to meet. You are from there, we should all hook up before and ride in together. You know...you probably saw this... they go crazy out there over the FSJ...they just do not get too many out there to play.

Michael
03-01-2002, 06:10 AM
March 29th and 31st...how does that sound, like derf mentioned. I do not want to do it in April Because the ok thing is the first weekend in May. :D

Let me check with my calender (wife) to see if there is anything planned!!

Michael

Let us know. Derf...do you want to go regardless???

I am trying to get Don S out there and Fireman as well.

My t-case should be here this week. I am crossing my fingers that it works better than mine. I would like to have some fun at Gilmer...although I will not have the carb kit on it for the steep grades. choke choke...puff puff.
Got my roof rack...yeee haaaa..it is big.

Don't you mean the 23rd/24th? That's Saturday/Sunday. I think I have plans that weekend myself. I need to check in with the gang first.

Michael

That weekend is fine with me. You guys let me know.

Michael
03-06-2002, 03:29 AM
Yeah the last weekend is not good for me either. That is Easter weekend and I have family dooos.

Derf...reschedule. Lets do in on the 24th....In my best begging tone<grin>

Michael

Brad-

The 23rd and 24th will work. Derf has not posted but we talked this weekend. (chime in anytime Derf).

We are planning on leaving Friday night. Stay Friday night and Saturday night out there and drive back Sunday Morning. Let me know if I am wrong on the details Derf. What time do you want to meet Saturday Morning. We can meet you at the office.

derf
03-11-2002, 02:41 AM
Yeah, the 23rd/24th is good with me but I need to be back by 4:00pm on Sunday. I'll have to pack my Jeep after I get home from work on Friday. Since my office is on a military base, it's difficult for me to get in the gate with a Jeep full of camping gear. They have a tendency of being suspicious when your vehicle is full of big coolers and tubs full of camping gear...

Michael
03-11-2002, 03:16 AM
That is fine. I will have to load mine as well after work. And then we can leave after that. We will talk more this weekend.

Brad are we on?

bchesley
03-11-2002, 07:58 AM
Yep, Definately!!

Michael
03-11-2002, 08:04 AM
What time do you want to meet up at the office. We will be there for sure. Looking forward to it!
And are you running a cb. You can call us once you get close enough!

Brad. We are leaving Friday night. Just FYI. If you want to hook up then.

So does that mean it will have a functional transfer case? No CB yet. I might have one by this weekend. I am not sure what time I will make it saturday morning. I will have a few other jeeps with me so it will depend on when we can meet up in Tyler and head north. I will let you know on friday morning a time frame. I too can't wait. I will have some new 35's on for this trip!!!!

Michael
03-19-2002, 12:52 AM
Wow, what happened to your 33's? Well it is actually the transmission is toast. They took the tcase apart and said it looked great. But the tranny was falling apart.

derf
03-19-2002, 01:20 AM
Nice. Will it be rebuilt by this weekend?

Michael
03-19-2002, 01:25 AM
Yeah it should be done today or tomorrow. Anyone want to guess how much???? Gurrrrrr
It better fix the problem anyway. Or I will be poed.

Michael

Hey guys am the newbie...too the list and FSJ's I wish I could make Gilmer with you this weekend, but we have put together a team for the SOAR event in O.K. it is this weekend as well. I have never seen a group of FSJs out wheeling that has got to gt some serious attention.
Good luck with the trip!
Looking forward to hooking up and wheeling.
BTW have any of you guys been to Mineral Wells?
For the FtW crowd it is pretty close only about an hour drive, only problem is mucho pinstriping on a Full size.
Not bad trails though.
John

hey John,

I have heard about Mineral Wells. We will have to check it out sometime. And yes. FSJ get alot of attention when you go to some wheelin' park like Gilmer. It is almost a car show. Where in Ok is your run? We are heading to OK in May 3,4,5 if you are interested. Nothing hard but some light wheelin' and basically a FSJ get together! Hope to meet you soon!

03-19-2002, 04:18 AM
why are you selling the 79? I might have a freind interested!!

Michael
03-19-2002, 04:30 AM
Not wanting to. But I have to find the $$$ to pay for the tranny. It is a bit rough, but will make a great trail rig. Needs an engine rebuild bad. Has the part time kit. The tires will not go if I sale it. I will want to put them on my '87. But I do have a great set of bfg at's I would throw in. I do not know if I want to for sure. I was just toying with the idea.....Although I have not done anything with it since I got it, I am very fond of it. :( I will sit on it and talk to you this weekend about it.

Umm not sure about the location of the event, It was supposed to be around Clayton, but there was some land use issues so they moved part of it. I am navigating for a guy in a XJ. The event involves GPS/Trails/Timed Trails/canoeing/ tire changing/high lift jack winching/ and a few other events. There are 4 people/2 jeeps per team, and we (JNT) are running 2 teams. I have not been able to do as much prep for it as I would like, because I have been working weekends for the last 3 months...Thank god I am off weekends after easter for 3 months...Ahhh wheeling will be good.
That is another reason I am not taking my CJ this weekend, I just have not had any time to spend on it here lately...It is need of gears, but I am looking for a new rear Diff right now? Anybody got a scout rear 44 laying around?
I will try to make the O.K. event in May if possible. If you want to run to MW one Sat or Sun let me know, I would love to Take the Wagoneer out there, and it is close and not illegal!
Give me a shout and let me know

I got a incredible deal on a set of the new procomp Xterrain's. I sold the 33's to a friend. That is good news about the transfer case, just a bummer on the trans. It will be a good trip to break it in on.

Michael
03-19-2002, 01:34 PM
Yeah or break it on...LOL I hate tranny shops.

See you then. Hey can I get you number? I will give you a ring Friday night or Saturday morning. Just want to make sure everyone can get a hold of one another. Send it to MJBHayes@msn.com.

How was Gilmer? The O.K. SOAR event hosted by FWD was great, cold part of the time but all in all a great weekend. It was held up around Talahina, there are some great trails up there. The folks around there are pretty happy to have the Wheeling crowd so maybe it will stay open. Clayton is officaly closed, writing tickets...Got back to find out that they closed Mineral Wells this weekend as well. The spots are getting farther and fewer between. You guys should look into getting a group together for a Talahina trip it is an absolutley great place to wheel.
Have fun.
John

Hey John.

We are headed that way in May. Wanta join. It does not have to be with you FSJ. We will be north of there. You should come along. The dates are May 3,4,5. I went to one of the FWD meets a month or so ago with fireman. Do you go to the meets??? We need to hook up.

Johnboy
03-26-2002, 04:52 AM
I have not joined FWD yet, but I am thinking seriously about it. They seem to really be into keeping land open, and secureing good spots to wheel. That sounds like a good thing. We went to the SOAR event representing Jeeps of North TX. I think there is a social FWD meeting tonight, but I prolly won't make it working late.
Sure man let me know. I am ready to try the Waggy out and see what she will do. I spent all weekend riding in an XJ and **** that thing is impressive.
