Matagorda for a weekend or Freeport for a day-trip would be cool with me.
from Austin-
I'd be down for meeting some of the texas folks, especially if yall end up in freeport / surfside, only a 4-5 hour drive or so.
(That is, as soon as I get the beast running again.... smile.gif )

I am new to the Houston area and would love to get together with other FSJ owners. I am planning on going to Ouray though (just moved from Utah and spent the last two years at the Ouray check rides and I just cant miss it!) I have a '91 GW.

glenn -
hehe like you need another excuse to get lower gas mileage!
Seriously, the jeep is now fixed, rebuilt dist and ignition module - ready to go to the beach.
You guy's ever consider meeting somewhere north of Houston...might be a bit less humid the first week of August :D
BTW, I've been meeting with my Cummins diesel bud's for the last two years. We started out meeting for breakfast and talking "trucks" in the parking lot. We still meet for breakfast and often cararam to someones house to make repairs or upgrade. It's alway's nice to have a few extra tools and hands around.
Is there any place north or west of Houston that you can legally go offroad?

243 the only close place i know is like Gilmer or ledgewater or shilo up north.that the reason we were thinking the coast good for day use.
Don't get me wrong, it works for me...I live in Clear Lake so it would be a lot shorter trip for me than the rest of ya'll :D

Okay, there's interest.. so how about August 24th (a Saturday) for Freeport for a day trip. We can even go peek at thse 4 J-trucks sitting near the still water.
David, there are VERY few places north of where you are that are legal. Fuqua near you used to be, and Spring Creek is slowly getting developed on. Out to the west used to have a place off of I-10 and Grand Parkway, but that's still debatable since signs are still posted.
steven
