I recently rebuilt my carburetor on 86 model truck.
I made all the adjustments as the directions said. My fast idle is much too fast.
Do any of you guys also fiddle with the choke spring on the side or do you mainly turn the fast idle screw.

Fast idle screw. Make sure that the mechanism is not binding. Look in tech library at the 2150 rebuild article by M. Baxter. Adjusting fast idle is covered.

I had the same problem after my 2150 carb rebuild. I did good job considering it was my first, but it idled really high, and there was no play left on the idle screw to take it down. I fixed it by starting the fuel/air mixture screws at only 1/2 turn out, and adjusted the idle from there. The idle screw had to be adjusted up quite a bit to keep it at idle, but at least I had it where I could adjust the idle up or down.
