Ok everyone looks like this deal is going to happen. The other thread was getting way to long so I am starting a new one with the maps of the area. There is lots to do and many places to see in the area so everyone say if you are coming. Would like to make this an annual event. Also if you got a buddy that wants to come bring him or her too. Don't have an FSJ yet??? No problem, drive what you got. It's nothing to extreme so even if you have a nice rig you will be ok. Hopefully the "Camo Cow" will be ready by then but I will make the trip regardless. Here are the links to the maps. I think we need to contact Mike in Talihena and see if he would be avalible for the event.

hey im im th kc 4wd club and we are going to clayton lakes in mid march what is that like?

JeepFreak
02-23-2002, 04:26 PM
Clayton is allot of mud. I have been there lots of times. You will most likely be wheeling on Sardis Lake. Might meet you all down there to watch some of the fun.

dennis w helt
02-24-2002, 01:35 AM
is that what they call disney?

JeepFreak
02-24-2002, 02:16 AM
No Disney is a town located at the dam side of Grand Lake. Most of the wheeling is below the dam there. Lots of rocks. Depending on where you are going in Clayton trails can range from mild all the way to a 5 star trail. The tough thing about the wildlife managment area at Clayton is that once you have committed to a trail there isn't many place to turn around or alternate routes ("bypasses"). Clayton is very tough depending on where you go. Sams Offroad in Tulsa does runs at Clayton every year. You see lots of small jeeps that are running 40 to 44 inch boggers. Lots of washed out areas makes things interesting for sure.

thanks 4 the info jeep i will probley go lots of tj,s and yj,s are going and there built tough locked and some are running d60,s so i figure its got to be tough but witch is tougher disney, podo or claton lakes?

JeepFreak
02-24-2002, 11:32 AM
If the water is not running out of the dam Disney is the toughest by far. Lots of big bolders!

Well Ok Event is around the corner. Anyway I can get a head count of who is planning on attending?
And what days. I am going to drive in possibly Thursday evening. That is if anyone else will be there as well. So I would like to coordinate my travel plans around you local guys schedule. Anyone planning on attending Friday??? I was thinking if everyone could be there Friday we could meet in Heavener, OK. Small town but I believe it is a good meeting point. Or we could meet in Mena,Ar at the Lodge.

What do you think Jeepfreak???
I would also like to plan some kind of scheduled events while we are there. Somewhat organized...he he.

Either way is good for me. If you all want to meet on Saturday I will drive up on Friday.

I am not sure if I would be able to make it on Friday or not...I will talk to my wife this evening to see if she has any vacation time to spend on that Friday. I am definetly on for Saturday. I will go down there possibly on Sunday this weekend to see what is open and what is closed.

Michael
03-04-2002, 04:24 AM
Absolutely Derf. I would not have it any other way. Are you off that Friday. If you are then we will shoot for leaving Friday Morning that way you will not have to take an additional day off. I am good either way. I have thurs and friday off so that will give me thurs to get ready!

derf
03-04-2002, 04:29 AM
I don't have that Friday off. I may be able to shift hours around to get that time off but we'll have to see.

Michael
03-04-2002, 04:36 AM
Let me know. I would much rather drive together if any of us have any problems....GO GET THAT FRIDAY OFF!!!!!! :D If not, and if my wife does not go, we can leave friday night. It is about 5 hours from my house there so it is a drive and I sure do not want to drive it on Saturday and then turn around and drive it again on Sunday.

Hi All. Just wanted to post my plans for May 3,4,5.

I did a bulk email for whomever posted interest in the Ok Gettogether. Sorry if I missed anyone.

I will be pulling out around 6am heading to Ardmore to meet with Big Bad Jon and then roll to OKC to meet with 2j20's. Anyone interested in meeting please email me direct and I will be happy to show you the way. It will be a long ride but hopefully we can get a good group together to make this an anual event, spreading the locations around of course.

Just wanted to say, looking forward to seeing everyone there! On the 4th of May at Queen Wilhelmina (still cannot spell) Resort for breakfast 8am.... and to see the RRV Fsj's!!!

Johnboy
03-27-2002, 06:32 AM
There are some nice trails going up to the Quen W (don't ask me about spelling either) road...WHta ever that highway is, coming out of Talahina that is where some of the event I was in this past weekend was held. Man incredible views from the trail! Some decent, didn't see anything too hard core right in that area. On the other side of Talihina is the Freelan (sp) place, he gets $10 a day per vehicle to let you wheel, but they have some nice trails going on there. His place is on the honor system, drop it in the box on the way in. I will get with my buddy and get all the GPS cords for those trails, we did a fairly significant GPS run over that area, and can probably give you several trai llocations in LAt/Long if you want them. I will hit my wife up and see if she would like to do the May trip it would be a blast.
John

Michael
03-27-2002, 01:23 PM
John that would be great. We can probably plug them into Derfs GPS. Yeah...get the wife ready. It will be a blast. My wife and kiddo will be coming as well. So let her know that....some persuation. All the other wives are doing it!! ;)

Johnboy
03-28-2002, 03:21 AM
I will not be making the O.K. trip, I found out last night that I am going to a seminar that will make me a better husband/person/life partner....While I would a hell of lot rather be wheeling I did promise her before we got married so here I go! Hmmmm think I might just go AWOL and head to O.K. that would prolly result in divorce, and right now I can't afford to lose the garage! :D
Oh well maybe the next go round. I will email you the number if you send me your email addy.
John

Michael
03-28-2002, 03:42 AM
Although the trip will be fun. Your marriage is much more important :D My wife has not pulled one of those yet....she pretty much lets me do what I want to. And I do the same to her. Wow, I sound like my wife. Hey no problem at all. We still need to hook up. Here is my email address. Michael.Hayes@perigonmed.com. Send your phone too. I will give you a call sometime.

JeepFreak
04-11-2002, 01:25 PM
Ok guys it is close enough for us to be able to say if we are coming or not...So we need to do a role call. I myself will be there. Also I will be in the area on the 20th so I will scout out some places if I have time. Are you guys wanting mild trails or wild? We have them all over here so come prepared for whatever you want!

Michael
04-12-2002, 01:39 AM
Of course I will be there.

'87 Red GW. And Family.

As far as trails, I think we should keep them mild, and some wild (depending on what you call wild) for the stock rig prescence. We should at least see the country side without being on the pavement.

liliysdad
04-12-2002, 06:10 AM
i am hoping to be able to go, once i get this whole 304 conundrum settled, but being the jeeps first real journey, how is everyone going?? i mean is there anywhere that i could meet up with a few of you fairly close to here and convoy??

Michael
04-12-2002, 07:15 AM
Lilysdad- I was heading a convoy through OKC but Big Bad Jon is unable to go. I have changed my route. I may still be going that way but it ads an hour on the route. Depending on what 2j20's says about the route change is the way I go...he is in OKC and meeting me as well. Is it possible to meet you in Durant OK????

liliysdad
04-12-2002, 08:26 AM
durant is about 75 miles, so it woul probably be ok. let me know. like i said, i'm not even sure if the jeep will be ready or not. what day and time do you expect to be in durant??

2j20's

Michael
04-12-2002, 10:05 AM
I believe Derf is coming from Tx. And that may be it.

So here is my plan revised..04/12/02

Leave Friday 6am. Meet Lillysdad in Durant time tba head to McAlester Meet 2j20's and off to Heavener. Times TBA on Monday. Once I run my maps.

I will let you all know then.

2j20's
04-13-2002, 08:33 AM
hey jeepfreak are we the only two okies coming! where do we stand on the count !

Michael
04-14-2002, 09:30 AM
2- from Tx for sure!!!
2-Ok for sure!!! Maybe one more.
1-Ark for sure (for the day Saturday anyway)

JeepFreak
04-14-2002, 10:35 AM
Well the key is to get it kicked off for the first time. Then as it gets going it can only get bigger. I will be bringing my old Cherokee trail rig because I went all the way to KC and the Cherokee I was looking at had rusted out floors so I had to pass on it. Maybe one day I will get a clean one! There are three of use coming from Oklahoma. Lillysdad is coming too. Even if his rig is down I will have him ride with me (if he wants to). I won't be able to do any really tough trails though because I don't have time to put the lockers back in and I already sold the tires I had on this one. I think I will just pick up a pair of 33 inch SSR's. Place here is having a sale on them for 120 so it shouldn't set me back to far. Maybe we can still get Mike from Talihena to meet use for breakfest.

Michael
04-14-2002, 02:22 PM
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh. I forgot about Mike...(sorry Solar) Yeah he is meeting us for breakfast Saturday.

So that is

4 from OK
1 from arkansas
2 from Texas

Do not worry about the trails. I am limited as well. Although am trying to figure out a way to stuff my 33x12.50 under there before then...we will see. They fit great, i did put one under there today, I am just worried about articulation. Mild easy trails will be a must, because most of us are stock!!! Great price on the tires!

BIG BAD JON
04-17-2002, 11:49 AM
Im getting my salvaged transmission the 1st of May, but I still need my wiring fixed  , so I'm not going to be able to attend this time. Ill try to attend next time. Sorry guys. redface.gif

You can add one more from Arkansas. I will be driving from Little Rock and I will only be able to spend Saturday - meeting and wheeling- In addition, I have a set of rims off of my 86 GW if anyone is interested I will bring them and you can check them out. They are in great shape. Thanks see ya'll soon.

Michael
04-20-2002, 02:25 PM
Great Deal!!! See you 8am Saturday in Mena for Breakfast!!! And some wheelin' after that!!!!

Oracle
04-20-2002, 02:40 PM
I'm going to try to get this 88 in shape and meet you guys, I'm up by Harrison in North Central Arkansas so if I can get the parts in time, I'll come down and run with you too if you don't mind another stocker so i'll drive the mild and ride with someone on the 'wild' smile.gif
Let's see, radiator, waterpump, timing chain and gears, check the tranny, check the transfer, redo the ujoints, front cardan, bearings, and brakes, oh, almost forgot that muffler and tail pipe... heheh That should keep me busy for a few hours smile.gif Hell, I might even have a go at the dead AC smile.gif
Anyway, hope to get a chance to meet some of you guys before Ouray smile.gif

Hey guys I'm the guy with the solid axle Durango that Steven Armistead has mentioned. I'm living in Tulsa, OK and am interested in "tagging along" on the wheeling this weekend. It'll likely be me, my spousal unit Kelly and our 2 labrador retrievers.

I read the entire thread here.. But am still a little unclear as to the plans.

Kelly and I will be working in Tulsa till 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Is there a designated meeting place and time for Saturday a.m wheeling? Based upon this well make the decision to either drive down Friday night or Saturday a.m.

Is the run going to go from the Saturday a.m. meeting place and end up some place else? If so, camping or hotel?

Is there anyone caravanning from Tulsa on either of those days? Maybe we could hook up...?

I realize this is a lot of questions.. Thanks for the help!

Okay good question.

Here are the plans.

Saturday 7am drive Hwy 1 to Mena Arkansas and eat breakfast at the lodge there. Ride the train and so on.

10 am head to the woods.

Meeting point is Cedar Lake Campground. Just south of Heavener Oklahoma. At 10:30 or 11am.

Wheelin' from there. Hope this helps a bit.

Cool... If Cedar Lake Campground is the meeting point just before wheeling begins... AND is this the place people are returning to Saturday evening? IF SO... I may meet you guys there at the 10:30-11:00 time Saturday morning, but get there a little early to unpack gear. Don't really wanna wheel with camping gear in tow...

Are reservations recommended at Cedar Lake Campground?

TIA.. again smile.gif

I,Derf and 2j20's will be camping there. Ariving Friday afternoon. If you want I can reserve you a spot, by paying for it. Or you can just pitch a tent on one of our sites. Cedar lake is first come first serve. And if they do not have any spots avail. Friday with us coming we will have issues as well

Depending on the morning I will try to be there earlier than 10 am. Just depends. Here is my mobile number. 817-915-5449. Not sure if it works in the hills. Are you running a cb. We will be on channel 4....but of course you will not hear us unless we are close to you. Hope this helps.

Our plan is to miss the group B-Fast and meet all at the camp site. We plan on getting there around 10 a.m., so we'll have a few mins to unload gear.

About the campsites (keep in mind, I'll have 2 dogs - labrador retrievers (6 and 9 yo) - they're quiet and well behaved)... We can do it either way. I don't mind sharing OR you could get an extra for us. They may have rules about #people/#cars at a single site. Either way, we'll pitch in $$ when we get there. Just let me know. I'll hold on to your number and try to find out which site number on that morning. Or you could tell them at the gate that a "Michael Alexander" (in a big fat pig Durango) will be meeting you and they could point the way.

What time will you be leaving Sat. a.m.? Maybe we could caravan together? Like I stated above, I was thinking to leave around 6 and meet them at the site - missing the B-Fast. I'll give you a call later on tonight.

Solid. Sounds good to me. I sent you a pm also. No problem with dogs and kiddos. My 3yr old will be with me and my wife. At least the kids can entertain one another. If the site looks full when we get there we will save you a spot. If not I will just leave it open. When you get into the campsite. You will see mine...There will be a white F150supercrew(4dr truck) at one of the campsites. Just a land mark of what spot I will be in so maybe we all can stay in the same area!!! Cannot wait to see your rig!!!

Durango, if we don't hit the breakfest I was thinking of heading out from my place at around 8:00 am. I live in the country close to Preston and am at the Highway 75 and Highway 16 junction. There is a gas station on the west side of 75 a mile up from 16 so I was thinking we could meet up there. Again if you want you can give me a call.

Is that enough time to get there in time? They had planned on wheeling 10:30 - 11 ish... I wanted to get there and set up camp prior to that time.

Leaving at 8 from there (gas station) doesn't seem like enough time. But then again, I'm not familiar with the area and all..

7:00 a.m. at interesectin/gas station you mentioned should work.

I got your message last night, but we where out (beer run to Kansas!), and didn't get back until late. Knowing you guys had kids, I didn't want to disturb.

I'll try giving you a call today or this evening. In order to get ready, I've got to do the yard, a Walmart trip, and a grocery store trip. I'm going to try to get it all done tonight.... Hate staying up late on Friday, only to get up really early on Saturday to pack the roof of the D! Always so much to do! smile.gif
