Midlerth, what part of central CA are you. I'm in Stockton.

Stuka, last sunday me and my brother decided to load everyone up and went up by Columbia and did a section on the Crandel Peak trail. It starts just around Columbia and goes up close to Strawberry. You familar with it?

I'm in Santa Rosa. About 60 miles north of San Fransisco. Mike Hani lives across town from me, he's another FSJer on here. My truck needs some axles so it's not going anywhere for a while.

San Jose Here, born and raised. Won't have a rig to "wheel" until I finish the 73. Figure about a year if I'm able to continue to fund the project. Just picked up my chevy d44 front and 14 bolt full float rear yesterday. Getting my T18a and d20 case from a member in San Ramon (miked) in a bit. I'll be taking my 70 and my camping trailer up north to Lake County the weekend of april 12 for some turkey hunting.

La Crescenta,CA here. It's about 20 minutes from Los Angeles. Just let me know when and where. I'm doing a one ton swap now but still trying to keep it drivable during most of it.

my rigs need work too, one needs a little look at the brakes (nothing serious), the other has some pesky fuel leak and driveline vibration.

CaliGWagon: Only one that comes to mind is Frank Raines Park, about seven to ten miles west of Patterson (though you can get to it by taking mines rd south out of livermore, then turning east at the crossroads) - bunch of hills to climb, but there isn't enough out there that I'd make a weekend trip out of it. It takes me just under two hours from redwood city, taking the freeway to patterson, then going west from 5 to the park. IIRC, there was a couple buck entrance fee charged using the honor system. rangers DO patrol out there, so be safe and use your head. the 74 had no problems out there (dead stock with 29" tires and no posi), but spent almost all of its time in low range.

Also, Mac (from the north bay) put a list together on yahoogroups called "CA_FSJA", open to CA jeepers (or anyone close enough that they'd want to come wheel in CA).

San Jose, CA here.

CaliGWagon: There is an offroad park near Tracy called Carnegie. I have never been there but I do know they have offroad trails for 4X4s. I want to check it out one of these days.

Kevin and Chirs, thanks for the info. My Jeep is almost back together with the new JuiceBox and Edelbrock setup. Have to do the new carpet and seats and gauges and stuff, but its almost usable I'll have to check that spot out by Tracy, should be cool!

Redondo Beach here. I would be interested in doing something. Would be nice if the price of gas would drop. We are so spread out here in Cal. that for a dozen guys to get togethor about 10 of us would have drive 300+ miles.

That does seem to be the problem with a FSJ gathering. Everybody (including me) wants it in their own backyard. At $2/gallon for fuel and 10MPG a trip out to play even in the local mountains cost $30 !!!

Straight out of South Central Los Angeles here!! I do frequent the High Desert (although I have never taken the Wag there yet).

All you So Cal guys lets find a time to get together. I probably wont be able to until mid July or so but who knows...

10 mpg! No matter what I do!

That's why I say....

Long Beach Area (Lakewood), in southern cali,

My rig can climb anything my driveway throws at it smile.gif
But still a ways from being trail ready, let alone road ready.

Lakewood??? I'm over there once a week to visit my Dad. Don't usually take Herculies though since it's cheaper to run our little Amigo around.

Oroville here(about an hour north of Sacramento) lots of trails up here, just wish my rig was in a little better shape, I'm glad I have a 258 though, good miliage, even with 31s on it. Anyhow, anybody in the neighborhood? We'll go hit the trail sometime.

CLS: AFAIK, Carnegie is open to 4x4s, but they don't let them play on the trails - the trails are bike or atv only. four bys are allowed on the flat (basically a big mud hole that isn't much of a hole if it rains), so it's kinda boring, unless you have boggers and a ton of horsepower. The extra 30 minutes in the truck to get to Frank Raines instead of Carnegie gives you some hills to climb up at least.

AMC258: I certainly hear the straight six for mileage - my 74 has a one barrel straight six, and it sees more trail duty than the 77 (with 401) just because I have to carry less fuel for it. like spacefabric says, two tanks AIN'T enough.

Well I'm in Eureka, my Jeep is at my buddies house in San Andreas, my extra parts are at my folks house in San Jose, and my time is in SCHOOL. But only a few weeks to go then its straight to wrenchin and then wheelin. And if I get a trailer it don't matter where we all get wheelin at because I'll still get better fuel milage towing the Jeep around with my diesel than driving it around. And diesel is cheaper. 87 up here is $2.12 right now so I guess the Jeep being down is keeping my account up. Let me know I'm in come summer!

Right now I am pretty low on funds so my jeep isn't going anywhere right now. I need to get gears installed before I can move. But once that happens I am here in San Luis Obispo right now and then in Oakdale/Modesto during the summer...

So I have a little bit of work ahead of me, but my right rear tire has a nail in it so its completely flat and getting some air isn't going to be easy. I don't know really what I am going to do right now I am kind of taking a break from the jeep and focusing on school and such...

All you have to do is go North out of the bay area into any of the rural counties and youll find plenty of roads that need FWD.

Mendicino County is full of wagon rut areas. Only problem is you can get shot at by a grower or some religious fanatic.

Lake County has a series of dirt trails off of Hwy 20. You can go almost all the way to oregon on scenic back roads that are not paved.

Whitter springs road between Nice and Lucerne is a good entry point. There is also one in Upperlake as well as Redwood Valley.

Just have to be careful during logging season.

All those places are about 3 hours from the Bay area.

Bring a tent or sleep in the wagon. You'll be out in the boonies with the Bares n varmits and forgetting about the 101/ / 280 /580 /680 /80 crunch.

If you want the thrill of slinging mud come in the rainy season. Just bring a CB in case you slide in a bad way. Winter with the snow is a lot prettier then the trip to Tahoe.

Up here in Chico(Not Chino). Haven't checked in in a while. Just took the wag out for it's first "long" trip to Stockton. ONly had to stop once to tighten driveshaft flange bolts. I figure I even got her up to 80 mph. I did have to stop on 99 but that was only to retrieve a hubcap that came loose.

I'm over by the LAX and Marina del Rey area. My Cherokee is back on the road and running great with a carb setup. I'm driving it to work and back. Still need mounting bracket mods to get bumpers installed after 2" body lift. Waiting for completion of the intake manifold mods for EFI conversion to be finished - the guy keeps telling me it will be ready soon. Wes
