John, Aug is a long ways off for me to plan a schedule so I don't know if I'll be on/offshore but if I am on the beach I'd be interested playing in Orygun smile.gif
If ya want add me to an email list for plans, updates etc.

I will try to make it out there. i have never been out of Canada really so i have no idea what to do when i cross the border.

By Aug I may have a Jeep that would be reliable enough to make it and a bit o cash to pay the gas bill, but on the other hand...I may not...

bottom line = I am interested, but non-committed

Well, I have to grudgingly withdraw my enthusiasm for the trip.

A good friend of mine is getting married in Cali Aug. 15 and I kinda am supposed to be in the wedding. redface.gif (

quikclimber, how come I have never seen you around the Harbor? I would have remembered a lifted 77 Cherokee...

Special K - When you get across the border remeber these 3 important rules:

1. Drive Fast
2. Don't Signal
3. Follow too close

You should be fine if you follow those...lol. A police officer told me those once.

Oh yeah... I am in also but I think that was arranged before this post.

Yeah, i try to avoid driving around in the harbor, gas is expensive, theres nothing to do there, the list goes on.... actually ive seen your rig in front of thriftway a few times, nice. my jeep is green with white top, rustys 4"...so its not super big looking with 33"s. we gotta hook up sometime and head out to tahuya or evans creek.

Ok folks here is what I have so far. The campsite is at 45.51997 latitude -121.74455 longitude @ 1702' elevation. There are quite a few trails/powerline roads in the area. There are no restrooms or ammenities for a good 7-10 miles. There is room enough for everyone who wants to come, however there is only room for 3 maybe 4 tents at the best spot. Jerry cans would be a good thing to bring as well as any spare parts for your rig that may cause a repeat of last years trail run. ( tongue.gif You know who you are! tongue.gif ) This area is also home to Mt. Lions, bears, scorpions, ect, ect, ect, so common sense must be used. At this stage I'm open to any ideas for making this as enjoyable as possible for everyone, so what does the gallery think?

John V

New info.....
We have well exceeded the size that I was expecting! As great as it is to have everyone come out, it makes more work and expense for me. That said, I MAY have to ask for an administration fee to cover some of the costs. I plan on clearing campsites as well as providing potable water, showers, latrines, 2 LARGE improved fire pits, misc. campsite improvements, and other logistical support. I will post any updates here or if you have any questions feel free to email me. Thanks and I hope to see you all there!

This is still set for the 15-17th of August right?

Been trying to convince my friend he needed to postpone his wedding, but his woman didn't like the idea. Go figure.

TPICherokee
05-13-2003, 08:09 AM
John V: I think what you are asking is fair. Nobody should expect to stay for free and your time to put this whole thing together is worth something also. Let us know how much and I am sure that it will be fine.

Special K: If you want to have someone to "guide" you down to Oregon, I will be willing to do that. I am just 40 miles south of Seattle. Let me know. Also, when they ask you at the border if you have any firearms... don't reply with 'yeah, what do you need?'

Quikclimber: When I get project Wagoneer done, we can go wheeling. It should be done this summer. Was that you I saw on the Narrows Bridge about 2 weeks ago?

Brent

John V
05-13-2003, 03:10 PM
Kakur: sounds awful closed minded of her! Yup still planned for the 15th-17th, though I will be there from the 10th.

Brent: Thanks for the support! I was thinking like $10 per group. Sound fair?

Everyone:
If you are coming for sure could I get a headcount for you, and those who are coming with you? I'll start, me + 4 =...5 right? redface.gif

If you aren't sure about coming, MAKE UP YOUR MINDS! ;) Seriously though, the sooner you can let me know the better for everyone. This area is rock with a little dirt thrown in, so if you have to come last minute bring an air bed and something to protect the bottom of it.

Gwamp
05-13-2003, 03:39 PM

John V
05-13-2003, 04:09 PM
There had better be a bunch more that that different! Lookin forward to it! You should have to hike the trail once for last year's "run" tongue.gif

quikclimber
05-16-2003, 04:51 AM
brent: yeah, that was me. so is your big black rig not fit for trail life? ill go wheelin anytime. i have to replace some freeze plugs and im putting in a part time kit soon, plus a spool up front and hopefully a locker, so i should be ready to roll.

anybody on this side of state want to roll out to tahuya anytime soon? or anywhere for that matter

TPICherokee
05-25-2003, 06:48 AM
quikclimber: My big black Cherokee is fit just fine for trail use, but I won't take it. I like to have a vehicle that is a daily driver that I can trust and not break. Also I like the fact that if I do work on it I don't have mud and rocks falling in my face... I do wheel my CJ5 and when Project Wagoneer is done, I will wheel that one also...

John, I'll get my $10 to ya....
I have vacation with the girls planned for that week too!

If I 'Happened' to bump into a guy with a IH Scout Traveller from the Binder Group, could he be invited to the PNW get together too?

/////////////////////////////////////////////////
By the way,... personal update stuff below.......

John, I still do have your spare trans.

Heep, still need to follow through with you on that engine block.

I've been very busy.
I moved to Vancouver Washington, ...temporarially.
Still looking for a job.

Computer has been down for a few weeks now.
(Stinks having to use others computers when I get the chance)
Got the replacement yesterday to the new motherboard I recieved that was bad...
Also found out that one of the CPU's went bad in the process, so I'm only running on one brain..

I have a job interview in Tacoma Wa. tomorrow!!!!
If I take it, I'll need someone to tell me where NOT to live.
I'll probably be renting a room, or getting a place and renting out a room.

Any 'helpful' suggestions?

Hood River is only 670 miles from me (central MT) so getting there is not an issue. What IS an issue is getting a spare tire, fixing the backfiring problem, and getting my cross-over steering installed! Crap! ;)
Your timeframe gives me almost two months to get the stuff done. If I can, I am in! I will even up the ante and cough up $25 for the privelege! smile.gif
I do so wish I could give you a definite "yes", but my rig says otherwise! :(

Thanks!

I think I'm gonna have to pull out. After replacing the heads on my engine, it went about a mile and then seized. Yeah, seized bad. I'm getting a 401 block core this weekend, but I just can't see having the engine all rebuilt and installed and ready to go wheeling in 7 weeks. If I were richer, I could make it happen faster, but I can only work as fast as the paychecks allow.
So, I hope it goes well, and if there's a 3rd annual PNW jeep get-together, I'll be there come hell or high-water!

I'll check my schedules around the middle of Aug, but it looks like I can make this trip also.

The site sounds luxurious. I mean... potable water and cleared campsites? =)

Last night 1BAD401 offered to trailer my rig down there (imagine that...me rig, a trailer-queen :D ) and that definately increases the chances of me being there. I'll definately be bringing a kid or two and may be bringing the wife too...it all depends on whether or not 1BAD401 brings his kid and wife...cuz there wouldn't be enough room for his three and my four in his Chero...
so there are a few details to work out, but it looks like the carpool option could work for us...

John V

JeepingMoose, Only 670 miles? Well I hope you can come. I sooooo understand the rig dictating the schedule thing! ;)

illegalFSJ, BUMMER!!! :( There WILL be a 3rd but it will hopefully be somewhere new. Get the Jeep healthy and we'll see ya sooner or later!

jode, Groovy! :D We all knew it would go the way of the trailer someday, you're just a lil quicker than we figured!

Everyone, I hope to get up there either this or next week and get some more pics. I might even get to the fire pits. Once I get the pics I will be posting a poll in general so everyone can vote what trails to run and maybe even pick campsites in the order you posted on here. Well that's about it for now, thanks to everyone for the support and motivation to get this thing rolling. (The gtg not the Jeep...well ok that too! ;) :D )
