I will be there. Fenders or no fenders. Or unless the wife says otherwise......naaaaa she would not do that.??
Michael

btw Wagoneerman. Maybe you should change the title about something with Tx and Gilmer in it so it gets the other guys attention!!!

This sounds like a great idea...it does, it really does!!!
But!
And I hate to be the pessimist here...
Didn't we have a thread not to long ago about a WHOLE of bunch of us going to Gilmer back in May??? AND. I might add. There was plenty of time to make the necessary arrangements...heck only for a day.
Don't remember who all responded, but I'm sure there was over 10.
Well, only four FSJ's showed up!
Sorry guys, not trying to be negative. The amount of members from TX on this forum, I would have thought more of us could get together.
Just not holding my breath.
Heck I'm up for odds and all that sort of thing too! Any takers? :D

Because I am confident Wagoneerman,Glenn, Me and hopefully you will be there. Well that is if I get my kitchen pass. So that is at least 4.
Hey lets face it. It happens at every event. Hey even one time I was the only one to show up....now that is frustrating. I drove 7 hours to be the only one there. After 5-10 said they would be there.

I am watching this intently, but I won't say yes or no until I know for sure. This time if I'm lucky, maybe the whole fam can make it. Just have to wait and see, Labor Day is still a long way off.

I won't know if I can come until the last minute, due to work schedule and rig activities (work offshore Gulf of Mexico). Can I show up at the last minute????
And if wife-type says the normal "let's plan something for the whole family, Honey" can I bring ATV's for my daughters to play on??????
Michael
07-17-2003, 02:23 PM
You bet. My 4yr old son will be there. Come out when you can. Bring what you want...and most of all come to have fun with your family and meet some fellow fsjers!!!

I have my jeep back but its over heating and I'm thinking the radiator is bad, so going to replace that today, only old part left in the cooling system other than the heater core, but I think the heater core is ok. I hope I get all the bugs worked out this week so I can take my jeep.

I will be camping....in a pop up camper thanks to Turtle Joe. I have room for 2-3 more if wanted. No a/c but there will be fans and electricity.
Ranger. You basically have a month. So sure hope you can make it. Let me know if you need any help. I will be happy to come out.

Hey Michael I may need a place to crash. I don't really have any camping stuff If that's ok. What time will yall be getting there Friday?
timmirvin
07-22-2003, 02:42 PM
If I get to come I will be camping, either tent or pop-up.
Right now I am trying to decide if that time might be better spent working on Sherman.....decisions, decisions.......
I don't know, we'll see, more to follow....
Mainly I just want to show to meet fellow FSJers (and partake of cold beverages, of course). I have never been to one of these before. And all these cool pix I have been seeing is just drivin' me nutz!!!!

Still don't know, I could be in Toledo that weekend resurrecting an 84 GW for my brother. Still haven't figured out how we'd handle the camping if the whole family comes, as we may just rent a camper for the weekend to keep it simpler.
I would love to meet up with everyone. I am only 30 minutes away. I would bet that my Waggy will not be trail ready in a month. Could I bring a really nice "little jeep" and say I own a FSJ?
Pic of little Jeep.

OK, have decided to try my best to come. So, since this is my VERY FIRST FSJ event of any type (other than the thousands of man hours spent in the shop turning a wrench)...I have some questions.
If I bring the family, my departure from DeRidder will be NLT 6pm, which will put us in Gilmer about 10:30pm. Is the campground open that late??? (I really don't like the idea of Sherman's first road trip beginning around midnite. He has only been 5 or 6 miles from the shop so far.) Not to mention crankie family women.
What are the campsites like?? Is there electric hook-ups? How about showers for the women folk??
Are the tent sites nice?? I have a nice pop-up, but I would have to make a 45 minute detour to get it back from my brother-in-law.
How soon do I need to reserve a campsite??
And last but not least, does anyone have any pix of the trails at Barnwell??? Just kinda wondering what Harley & Sherman are instore for.........
TIA

Please note: I obviously have not spoken to the wife about this yet. Thus the questions about the campsite.......
Oh, and pix of the campsite, especially ones that make it look like a plush spa, would also be appreciated!!!LOL smile.gif

Found the BMRA link. Question....is the "No double riding" enforced for ATVs??? My girls would have a blast if they could ride around together, or with a friend...And do I have to go out and buy helmets for them??? We do alot of riding, but not with helmets.....
And the rating of 1-5 for each trail....What should I be looking at, I have 1 (maybe two if I get some work done) Wags with pretty good tires, a little or no lift, open diffs, nothing special....oh, and I will need to drive them 5 hours back home. I am sure the trails that are rated with a "1" would be cool, but how about all the "2 & 3" rated trails???
Glenn_tx
07-26-2003, 08:40 AM
ATV riders do have to wear helmets, it is enforced. They still have to catch you though!
Don't know specifically about riding double, but suspect it's a no-no there as well.

Can we arrive late in the evening (or early am if I have Jeep troubles)????

timOkay see if I can answer.
1. There are electric hook ups. I will be bringing my pop up as well.
2. There are pretty nice showers.
3. Camp sites are simple. Dirt...but they are clean. Not like a KOA. It is an offroad park.
4. Plan on getting dirty.
5. As far as trails. You can have fun with a stock rig...
6. Look at the bottom of my post. You will see a Yahoo link. Click on it you will find some Gilmer pics.
7. Oh and get there when you get there. I believe the gates actually close around 10:30...I have arrived around 9pm before.
Hope to see you there.

I have some pics on my homepage of me and glenn at barnwell,
The trails are rated with diamonds for example
1 diamond - beginner
2 diamond - beginner-moderate
3 diamond - lockers required (me and glenn found that out in a hurry)
4 diamond - huge obstacles (lift and lockers required)
5 diamond - dont want to touch with stock anything
ATV riding rules are strictly enforced with no exceptions. They're very safety conscious out there for good reasons.
They do have helmets to rent if you don't have any.

I was thinking about checkin' this event out, but according to mapquest the park is 1,200 miles away from here. More than half that distance is just to drive across Texas. If you guys put something together closer to the El Paso side, I might crash the party! smile.gif

There is speculation that my club will be organizing a fall run somewhere in west Texas for 2004. That's about the most specific we've gotten so far. smile.gif
