It seems that a lot of fsj's have this same problem. I have tried cleaning the vents and behind the fender to keep my truck from leaking. Is there some sort of a thick liquid material that could be poured down the front cowling to help seal this area up?
any ideas?

When water goes into the cowl it is suppsed to leak out of a hole in the bottom of the truck. If you pour something down there, it will only make your problem worse. That drain hole in the bottom of your truck must be stopped up. I have the same problem right now. I think the best thing we can do is take that vent out and clean behind it making sure the hole in the bottom is not clogged. I hope this helps.

I had the same problem with a leaky cab and cleaned the vents out completely- removed the covers and flapper door assembly to get at the inside with a shop vac. Before reassembly, I pored some water in the cowl vent to make sure the water was draining out of the hole and it was. Next big rain- #&%#ing water on the floor!! What it turned out to be was the windshield gasket. Over time they dry out and shrink a bit, especially in the lower corners. I suspect that this might be your problem. I used a milk jug filled with water and poured it on the lower driver's corner and drip, drip, drip. When you have the gasket replaced, make sure they use a good sealant between the gasket and the body.

I got home yesterday and cleaned behind my vent. It was full of sand from sandblasting. It took me about 30-45 minutes and no more leak. I wish all problems were that easy to fix.

When you remove and clean your vents, open up the drain hole with a large flathead screwdriver, This'll make it easier to clear larger debris. I also cut out some chicken wire and installed it under the hood vent. Now I don't get leaves and acorns clogging up my vent boxes!
Good luck!

No pics of the interior but I can tell you its much easier to clean than the carpet. Its louder inside too but all i do is hose the inside out and sponge it clean!
