I have a original QT transfer case in my 74 Wagoneer and I am concidering a swap to a QT w/ low range. Would it be an easy swap?
I am not sure what year the low range QT is.
Just kinda dreaming up projects, not that I don't have plenty of stuff on my list already.

The swap is REAL EASY!!! Take the cover off your QT where the low range is "supposed to be" and add the mating gear, snap ring and the lo rang unit... DONE!!!! No other dissabmbly is really required as far as I know....just find a QT with the lo range and snag the lo range unit and mating gears/snap rings....

I thought you'd need a shifter as well. And some connection between shifter and t-case.
Am I wrong?

My '74 came stock with low range so it was an option as early as '74 but i dont know when it became available as an option

My apologies... yes... there is a small shift lever that you will need.... that's not too hard to install. I have pics of the lever if you need them.... and the linkage.
The donor vehicle can be "raped" of the lever and linkage with ease. 2 bolts hold the lever to the floor and clips hold the linkage on both sides.
If no donor vehicle is available, the "small Jeep" had the QT's as well and are easily identified by a clean hump (no 4WD shifter). The lo range lever is located on the side of the hump directly under the driver's seat and is about 2.5" long.

For 74 & 75, there was no lever but instead a cable to actuate low-range. The cable in my 75 died last summer, so I replaced it with a heavy duty PTO cable I picked up from a tow truck repair center for about $40. Specialty Parts wanted $150 if I remember correctly.
Anyway, if you have the early low-range it will have a lever that is actuated by the cable. The cable runs along the frame-rail and through a hole in the firewall. The handle is mounted under the dash.
Careful that if you go with this method not to have the cable interfere with your glovebox opening. (Don't ask me how I know this..)
