My brother just sent me this advertisement for a 4:1 reduction unit for Quadratrac. I had never heard of such a thing and I am sceptical as to whether or not the seller knows what he is talking about. Have any of you ever heard of a 4:1 being sold as an option on Quadra-trac or even of the 4:1 being an aftermarket kit? This is the text from the guys ad:

"For sale: I have a 4:1 reduction unit that fits any 1976-1979 AMC Quadra-Trac Transfer case. This was an option on AMC vehicles that used the Quadra-Trac transfer case so you could have a grannie gear like other types of transefer cases. I bought it to put on my 79 CJ-7 but never got around to it before I sold it. I can ship. Buyer pays shipping costs. It is in excellent condition complete with gear shifter. If Interested call XXX-XXXX"

What do you think - is this guy smoking crack, or should I jump on this deal immediately?

I think who ever he bought it from was blowing smoke up his tailpipe.

That's what I was thinking, but I had to check here to make sure - I'd hate to pass up the one and only chance in a million for a 4:1 red. unit...

Why not call him and ask him about it?

I have never looked at a QT reduction unit closely, but it's just a planetary gearset. You are not limited by the size of the gears that will fit the case of the transfer case, as in most conventional TC's (QT is a very unconventional case smile.gif ).
