FWIW, here is my experience from pulling the overhead console this weekend:

1. It is held on with *two* screws, not one (as the Jeep manual incorrectly states). One screw is under the sungless holder; the other is at the front near the windshield, hidden by the fabric covering (very small hole). Loosen those two screws and it slids off toward the rear very easily.

2. You can get the temp/compass module *out* without pulling the forward lamp unit, but you can't put it back in that way.

You have to pry up about six different black tabs around the white lamp parts (after removing the lamp lenses with a paper clip through the tiny hole at the front), loosen the lamps, then fish out the connector for the temp/compass module, hook it up and snap everything back in one piece.

Thanks fore the info. I neeed to remove mine and wondered if there are any adjustments for the temperature module. Also, is this were the remote entry electronics are housed?

I didn't see any adjustments for the temp module. There is a push button that switches between Fahrenheit and Centigrade, but that's it. (Mine reads 0 C all the time; I think I have a bad temp sensor.)

You have to drive around in a circle three times to get the compass oriented.

The remote entry circuit board is also there. There are four wires leading to it; the black is a ground; the pink (?) is 12V and the two other wires lead to the lock and unlock relays in the instrument panel. (This ia according to the Jeep manual; I haven't checked it out myself.)
