what gauge of metal for ...

the speakers mounts in the rear. i am tring to replace the 5.25 speakers in the rear with 6X9's. i am going to try and put them in the stock location using the same style of sheet metal mounts. i want to know the gauge of the metal used. thanks

I'm not sure what gauge it is but I wouldn't use it for 6x9's. I think the stock sheetmetal speaker mounts are way to flimsy even for the stock 5.25's. In the front doors of mine I cut out pieces of .25" wood to reinforce the mounts, I'd either use thicker gauge sheetmetal or strengthen them with wood, especially for a heavy 6x9 speaker.

i was planning on using a heavier gauge but i was not sure what to go up to. i guess i will just pull the mount off and take it in with me
