The truck is a 77 j10,360/Quad/d44 front and back 3:53 gears.. 3" lift..How big of a tire can be used without tearing up the axles? Mainly to be used for wheeling but may see a fair amount of road wear also..I've got 38" in mind..

To make a D44 live with big tires, the max recommended is 35". People have gone bigger but the increased weight starts to be too much for the axles, especially when you start to wheel it hard. That is why a lot of people here with big tires have upgraded to D60s and 14 bolts.

if you drive like grandma a 38 is fine,up to a 44 ;) if you are a "make it or break it" kina wheeler,no bigger than a 33.

if youre gonna run a bigger than 33" tire,do not sink any $$ into gears, lockers, etc. for the 44 axles,as it wont hurt nearly as much when you have to ditch em in favor of someting stronger

Scotty said it best....

I personally learned from experience with my 38's.... that's why I have 1.25 Ton axles now...14FF and D60.... I break these... I quit :D
