have the opportunity to pick up a 79 j-10 parts truck fairly cheap. It has d44 f & r with a passenger side offset rear. Would this have a dana 20 t/c? Is this stronger then the 208 that I have in my 81 cherokee? what abiut the d44 rear? Guess Im wondering if there would be any benefit of swapping the t/c and the rear dif? Would the front axles etc. be the same as on my 81 d44? Any info/suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks. :D

The D20 is an all-gear cast-iron case, BUT it is a passenger-side drop front-driveshaft ouput, meaning it won't replace your NP208 (nor will it bolt to your TF727).
There would be no discernible improvement from that drivetrain being swapped into your truck.
I think you should just buy the truck and restore it to have a spare around... smile.gif
As Bob said, it's a tougher x-case but not remotely compatable with any of your running gear. Swapping both axles and the tranny isn't worth it.
Be glad you have the 208 instead of the 219/228/229...there are others out there less fortunate than you ;)

ok, good points, I will be taking the motor etc. for my own use, some body pcs. as well. Would I be able to still use the front axle shafts as spares?
