I bought a used intake with a holly carb and I am wondering what all I need to install it. I read where I reuse my valley pan, (I hope it has one on it) what do I use to fasten it? I thought I read about pins or something, where do I get them? Any other advise is welcome, I dont want any suprises and I hate making 100 trips after parts. Thanks

The pan you reuse is on the bottom of the
OEM manifold, it is held on with rivets,
the replacment should have the hardware to
install on the new manifold. (It is not really
a "valley" as much as a heat shield and thing
to keep oil out of the PCV system. The valley
pan is really the replacment intake maniflod gasket.

I just installed an Edelbrock Performer on my Wag, took me less than an hour. I bought new intake gasket set, a couple of threaded plugs for the intake, and some self-tapping screws for the oil splash thing on the bottom of the intake. Just be careful to clean any crap that gets knocked into the valley when you pull your old intake off.

Does this TECH WRITE-UP (http://www.buildyour4x4.com/BY-Tech/Tech.html) help?

PS - please PM me if any of the links or images are broken - I just made this webpage tonight, so it is a definite possibility.

Thanks,
jode

Good looking write-up. Seems quite accurate and complete.

Here's a tip: If you want a chrome oil filler tube for the bling, go to the plumbing parts section of your favorite hardware or home improvement store. Pick up a 1 1/2" sink drain pipe. Cut carefully to the correct length, and tap into the intake manifold. If it's really tight, you might need to put a crease in the leading edge of the tube.

Excellent tech write-up jode. You adressed points in the installation that caused me to stop and think for a while during my first try at it. I had to remove intake after it was set in place and ready for intake bolts. I could not start one of the intake bolts by hand because the gasket did not quite line up at that hole. I removed everything, cleaned all surfaces again, worked and test fitted the gasket making sure that all bolts could be hand started before I installed gasket with sealant.
