I was looking at how the rear leafs on my 74' are slung in the rear. The eye of the leaf is on top of the frame mount. Does anyone think I could hang the leaf spring from the bottom of the frame mount to give me arount 3" of lift?

Take a look at River Beast's old site. It tells how he moved the hangers under the frame rather than on the side. I think I've heard that you can take spring hangers from another type of truck, say an older dodge pickup, and weld those under your frame where you need them. I wouldn't swear to that though.

JOE, CECIL is right. RIVERBEAST has a really good set-up! I am going to convert my shackle flip to the way he did his. I will probably come up with a little more lift than he did because of the way I did my original reversal. My FSJ had an SOA when I bought it but had 4" blocks in the rear & a 3/4-1" rear sag. :( I flipped the shackle and lowered the front of the rear leaf spring mount as well. I removed my E-brake cables(I am going with High Angle Drivelines T-case E-brake set-up), welded a full patch over the oblong hole they passed through, and then re-drilled a new hole to correspond with the existing round hole on the outer wall of the front mount. I now have about a 1/2" above level in the rear with no blocks. The shackle reversal was a matter of cutting the bottom of the shackle mount out, and then welding up a thick plate from the top of the mount to the top of the frame rail at a 45 degree angle. I am thinking about making a new 1-2" extended, greasable, shackle when I remove one leaf from my packs. I should get lotsa flex & travel out of this set up. I am going to be doing a full write up on the whole thing with a few variations based on skill and/or affordability and put it up on my website(It is under contruction/development now).
Good Luck with your project! Keith a.k.a.
