Quickly, is replacing the cam without removing the motor possible? I assume that lifters will need to be done as well. IF the leak down test is good, then I assume that this is a possible idea with a 40K rblt 360.

Yes, installing a cam while in the vehicle is possible. Lifters should definitely be changed as well, and would have to be pulled anyway so as to be able to remove the cam. I do wonder why you feel the need to change a cam with only 40,000 miles on your rebuild. Upgrade? ;)

The motor stays in, but you've got to remove everything from the top and front of the motor as well as the radiator, a/c condensor, tranny cooler (if equipped), and grill, so you can slide the cam out.

Thanks CJ, I thought so. The PO was my Dad, and he had the motor RBLT, however not a very good job as far as I can tell. Going to do a comp test when I change the spark plugs soon, that will give me more info. Curently, there is a noisy lifter that has not responded to the 'quiet lifter spoog' that I have put in. So, I thought that 'if' the comp test proves reasonable, I would replace the lifters and cam, perhaps adding a slightly hotter cam. IF the valves or rings (it does not smoke at all) prove marginal, then I will simply bag it and continue to try to losend it up with the additive.
Thanks for the help, guys!
