Is the flywheel from a '79 J-10 with a 258 and a T-15A 3 speed the same as one from an '83 J-10 with a 258 and a T-176 4 speed? Are they interchangable?
Thanks,
Anthony
The p/n's for the 258 flywheels changed in 80 again in 81 and once again in 82. Why the different numbers I have no idea but I don't see why they wouldn't swap?

Well, my problem is that the ring gear on my current flywheel is getting chewed up pretty good and I don't think it's helping my starter any. I've got a new ring gear, but I would like to take a different flywheel and get it done. Then I can get just swap them out while I've got everything apart instead of waiting to have it done and not having anything to drive.
Thanks,
Anthony
Anthony so long as you get the flywheel resurfaced at the same time since the two different trannies prolly used different size clutches with different wear grooves, I don't see why it wouldn't work. Only possible reason for the part number changes I can think of is that maybe they lightened the flywheel in 80 a little bit to squeeze some better mpg's out of the motor. That's just a W.A.Guess though????

I know they took like 11 lbs. off the crank in '80 or '81... only think I can think of is that maybe it has to do with the balancing of the motor. Less crank weight= less flywheel weight? Either that or it was something they tried to do for mpg. They were famous for that in the '80s...
Thanks,
Anthony
