1400 egr, electric choke
1405 nonegr, manual choke
1406 nonegr , electric choke
all 600cfm
i was thinkin of doing this swap myself. it would depend on emissions in your area and a few other factors. but most that i know of run the 1406

Don't use the Edelbrock 1400. It has a Chevy style EGR system that you don't need to pay extra for. The EGR system on your engine runs off a normal vacuum port from the carb. Of course, if you got one free go for it. Just plug up the Chevy EGR ports.

The Edelbrock 1405 and 1406 are good carbs. They are based on a Carter design. An old Carter carb would work well too. Holley makes some good carbs in the 600-650 CFM range too.

Is yours a stock 4bbl? If so, you'll have to get an adapter to fit the Edelbrock carbs. You could search Ebay for "4350" carbs, which is the number for the stock 4bbl.

You could also rebuild yours or have it rebuilt. That is, unless it's warped.

I guess it is stock. I just bought it last week and it does not want to start cold without starter fluid. The opinions I have had so far is if I am going to replace, go with something other than motorcraft.

I actually have a rebuild kit that came with the car. Looks like a lot of parts. I guess I could try it myself with nothing really to lose.

There may be some listers in CA, that are in your area. I'm not familiar with CA, except that it's on the left most portion of a US map, but there might be someone willing to give some "hands-on" help.

Don't forget the other sources of information, there's a wealth of FSJ knowledge as near as your fingertips (nope, don't mean the yeller pages, neither!! :D )

Personally, I've never rebuilt a 4350, but I've done several others, and IMO, the Holley's are the easiest to rebuild. Having said that, the Edelbrock/Carter don't have many moving parts, so can't be too hard.

If you do decide to do it yourself, John, just take your time, and be very careful with all the little parts. Ford is infamous for small parts, in their carbs.

It might not be the carb. Check all of the vacuum lines. If they are leaking, it will be hard to start.
