Anyone know of a product or process for polishing your windshield to remove micro scratches and pock marks? I don't want to replace it 'cause there aren't any cracks. But it's pretty spotty in the direct sunlight.
Maybe a rotary polish machine like the auto detailers use...but what type of polishing liquid would work on glass?

I know Meguirs makes some stuff we use to use on plexiglass and you used a rag. I think they make a glass polish as well.

To get light scratches out of the glass, you can use plain old white toothpaste and polish with a rag. The pock marks? Don't know what you'd do with those.

Have you tried OOOOO (5 O's) steel wool. It's very fine and used for polishing. I don't think it will get the Pock Marks, but it should work on light scratches.

Eastwoods sells a product for polishing windshields, I have never tried it though. It comes with a foam type attachment for a buffer if I remember right. If you've never checked out Eastwood's products get ready to be amazed. They sell just about anything you would ever need to restore a vehicle.

Here is what I do, (being a auto-detailer and all), depending on how scratched they are depends on what I use. Lightly scratched windows/water spots I use Meguire's "Body Scrub" with a cleaning sponge. (The one with the abrasive side) If it's real bad I use 00 steel wool with "Glass Wax" be very careful and only use light pressure on it or it will make it worse. Work a little area on the side first to see if its working. If all else falls, time for a new window!!!!! :D

When I worked for Safelite Auto Glass we used a kit exactly like the one in the Eastwodd site. Except we just put the polisher in a drill. It will work good for light scratches, but the pock marks and any thing very deep will not come out without distorting the view. Hope this helps.

The problem with stone chips, even small ones, is that once air gets in between the layers of the windshield if it is not removed the glass will fog up in that area and polish alone will not get it out. Some glass shops can repair small chips and there are DIY kits but I have not had much luck with them. Eventually windshields get so "sandblasted" that it is really better to replace them.
