View Full Version : Edelbrock IAS Shocks -- Sweet!

Yesterday a pair of #34408 shocks for the rear arrived from Summit (thanks to Veepster for trading EFI parts!).

Immediately decided to stop any further activity, including work, and went out out to the garage to install the shocks. Kind of difficult because they have a hefty gas charge, but I managed to twist the vinyl packing straps using a wrench like a tourniquet. Took about 15 minutes to get them both in. Couldn't wait to road test them.

The instructions say to give them 20-25 miles to break in, but other forums I've visited say it'd take 1000 miles to where they loosen up and no longer jar your teeth loose.

Well, I've put about 50 miles on them already, and I can't imagine a better ride. The front shocks are pretty good Gabriels just two years old, and there was an incredible difference in the ride quality compared to the Edelbrocks in the rear. Go over railroad tracks and the fronts go "BUMP! BUMP!" while the rears go "thoop-thoop." Like friggin' velvet!

Give the beast some juice and the rear end doesn't twist or drop like it used to when taking off. (I love the sound of Edelbrock headers when accelerating onto a highway on-ramp!)

I ordered a pair of #33408 for the front from Jegs, and I just can't wait for them to get here! You know, I'm on a different side of life with this FSJeep than RiverBeast and others who like the lifted & big meats off-road scene. It's more of a 4WD street rod to me, so I like the boulevard ride.

And I'm halfway there. Sweeeeeeeet!

How much do they cost? Right now I have heavy duty shocks in the rear for towing and stuff. But when I get my lift, I wont be able to use em anymore.

COOL! I was looking into a set of these for mine but was wondering just how stiff they would be. So do you need dental work after a ride with these shocks installed?

JF, they are the smoothest shocks I've ever experienced. It's almost eerie how firm they are in terms of handling and still absorb every bump and pothole like cotton.

Stuka, their MSP is $75 each, but I didn't find any better deal than Summit and Jegs prices at $69.99 each. Some places had lower selling prices but more than made up for it with a bogus S&H markup. And I don't have any advice about towing or lifted vehicles; I would advise calling or emailing Edelbrock. My general opinion for heavy towing is that air bladders are the best for safety, especially since they help keep your Jeep's nose level and you can see where you're driving (headlights illuminating pavement instead of signalling UFO's). And lifted vehicles should use an appropriately dropped hitch receiver.

Also, Edelbrock has a $27 rebate for buying a set of 4 shocks, I think until July 1. I'm not even sure if I can take advantage of the rebate since Veepster actually paid for the rear pair and his name is on the "bill to" portion of the Summit invoice. I'll try, however, since my name/address is on the "ship to" portion of the invoice.

Well.. great to hear that you are happy with the new ASI shocks, but my experience on this shock on SFJ is some what????. I have tried these $$$ to $$ Shocks on my SFJ and did not see that much different. However, these ASI shocks will change night-to-day on the small Cherokee though, beacause I have been riding on these shocks for two years now and still ride like new.

Where were ya' when I bolted on the Ranchos? They're good (maybe great) but that velvet description has got my Woody (err... Waggy) all fogged up!

Ref. the meet... Saturday June 23rd. Let me know who else you can get ahold of.

I am stoked it worked out for you Ralph...I always love a good barter!!

I have had great luck with the Rancho 9000's...the adjustable ones....they take a little more effort but also another good choice...and I have heard nothing but raves about the Edel IAS's
