off the line i have plenty of torque, second gear kicks in and I lose 85% of the push, almost feels like coasting but the speedo says I'm still excelerating, can't tell when third comes in. Granted I am comparing my rig to the late model c10's that i drive at work, but those are six cylinders so it should be a fair match in lift/weight ratio. is this just the way it's geared or is something wrong?

Sounds like maybe you are skipping second and going straight to third.

Agree, try shifting it manually to find all 3 gears. My T350 in the GMC did this after the engine swap, neighbor just pulled the pan and played with something up in there, been fine ever since.

Be sure the linkage at the carb is set correctly for the trany. Being out of adjustment will also do that, and ruin the TF727 trany. :eek:
