Ok, it's Sunday night and my jeep sits on the side of the road waiting for me to come get her. She's a stock 89GW with a sputtering/engine cut out problem who finally got tired of my incompetence and decided to rest in some green grass for a while - leaving me without a ride to work. Sure, she's been giving me signals thinking I'd figure out the problem but I must be too dense, Anyway, here's the long of it - first she stated dying at the stop lights when I had the a/c on (been getting hot down here) - thought I fixed that when I adjusted the curb idle. Well, then she just started this cutting out while driving - like if I pressed too fast ont the accelerator she'd stall. Often she'd die at the light leaving me to shut off the a/c then restart - sometimes she'd act up when the a/c wasn't even on. Tonight, she cut out several times on the way to church even with the a/c off - then on the home she was doing fine till while ii was going 50mph she cut-out , backfired a few times then shut down. I thought 'well now might be a good time to instal that new fuel filter' - did that to no avail.

What's going on? What can I check when I go see her tomorrow am? Any quick diagnostic tips to isolate the problem - I know it's hard when I do not have her here to run out and check but I was hoping I could get some guidance before I get the wife to drive me out there tomorrow.
Thanks!

I always see those fuel pump vac testers at Autozone for about 12 bucks. Couldn't tell you what yer fuel pressure should be, though.
Wow, what a problem.
New fuel filter will just eliminate 1 of approx. 30 variables. Dunno if it's a fuel delivery problem per se...
Could be electrical, check connections at distributor. And wires.
Foul plugs will do this, too.
Vaccum leaks. Maybe wrench down the manifold. Check all vac lines carefully, make sure there's none layin around bare-assed. Check the main ones from carb ports to distrib and to smog crap.
Carb could be out of whack.
Or maybe it is something faulty in the fuel delivery.
Hope this helps, but hang in there, there'll be more posts w/better info. Brent

could be the power valve on the carb.
