The speedometer in my 91 GW goes up to 40 mph and then wavers between 40 and 35 at any speed above 40 mph. Does this sound like a speedo cable problem or a cluster problem? Has anyone experienced this before?

Sounds like a problem with the gauge. Try pulling the cluster and opening up the gauge and cleaning it out. Maybe the magnet has some junk in it. Worth a try.

When mine did that it was the speedo head going away. After a little while the needle went round and round clockwise then all of a sudden it started going backwards. Thats when I got a new speedo head and pulled the cable to check it,I used a lot of graphite on the cable when I put it back in.

Mine did the same thing. I had to replace the whole thing.

Where do you get just a new speedo head? From a junk yard or can it be ordered from some company? TIA
