Hello,
Prev Threads: U-Joints Popping - Stupid (http://www.ifsja.org/cgi-bin/ubbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=2&t=008247) and QT Sprocketts (http://www.ifsja.org/cgi-bin/ubbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=5&t=000754)
I got my chain in today, and will be installing tonight in the driveway. Does the chain have a key? Or need to be matched to the teeth in some way? There is one piece that's colored different than the others on the chain. Can I hold the chain/sprocketts up with two-four hands and put it back together? I was told by Tellico to use RTV on the case?
What all little tricks and tips/advice do you have? Pretty please? Will be installing at about 4:30pm this afternoon

The chain is the same all around. The sprokets and chain will go on the back case halve and you sipl that all back on. Its a little tough to get the shafts back in but it will go. Yep it uses just RTV for the gasket I prefer the ultra blue Permatex.

Hooray!! We're done! We started at 5:00pm and finished at 8:45pm. Replaced the chain and fixed the popping noise! So freaking excited right now!!!
Don S: That little spring is just in the WRONG spot... Arrghh! An hour just on that piece.
My friend Jeff and I held the chain apart and slid it right in. No problems. Now getting the reduction unit on, that was hard... BTW my reduction unit is TORE UP. I'll be posting pictures of the metal shards soon. I think the shards are from the inside handle that sets the low/high range...
All and all it was pretty fun, and not that hard, even for a dummy like me! :D

JASON........ glad to hear the good news. Got to see the youngster on your page...super!! Other than the "frags" sounds like the main parts are good. Y'all are younger than Milton and Me. I was born when dirt was still rocks... :D :D ..There's a trick to checking the chain-play but you won't need that for 'bout 60,000 miles... ;) .....ds

Thank you for all the support and tips! It turned out the jeep was the right height to lay underneath and work. THe 4" lift really helped out! There were times I could sit up underneath and work (getting the little vacuum spring thingy).
We took off the rear driveshaft and put the front on stands. That seemed to worked okay. You know what really threw us? We thought we had to take off the rear yoke to get the carse apart. Turns out the bolt was hiding behind that springy thing. aarrghh tongue.gif
I think I need a whole new reduction unit... Unless we can take apart the unit and work on the inside next to the drain plug, there are more pieces we couldn't get out behind there. And inside lever piece is shattered, so it won't go into low. And which is why it wasn't letting me stay in high last week.
Isn't she adorable? Melts my heart everytime. (the kid not the jeep :D )

You know, I had posted a couple weeks back about things just going wrong and having problems with everything... When things seems to work, everything just falls into place. Good/Bad things come in threes? And with the chain, everything just slid apart, and pretty much slid back together. Of course with a little knuckle gouging and frame-to-head syndrom.
So glad it went smooth. My wife asked me when I got home: "Weren't you afraid to work on it during a weeknight, when we have to drive it the next day?" You know, the thought never occurred to me. I got the part in and was like ohohoh gotta go!!
I couldn't have done it without the info and help from this board. You guys rock!

FYI: I drove the jeep for a full two weeks with the popping noise/chain slipping and none of the teeth were chipped or broken!! :D

Keeps my shirts clean... I hate laying in the dirt/oil. Only this time, when I was pouring the oil in T-case it dumped all over me!!!
I don't have a roller platform thingy... I don't think I like them anyway. Any time I'm pushing on something, I always roll the other way...
:D :D :D
