I just got the new Edelbrock intake and carb on.Won`t be able to test it for a while, still waiting for the transmission and t-case.I want to go with the K-N air filter, does anybody have this set up?I would like to get the part # ,what would be best the 9 or 11 inch. What are the pros and cons ? I called K-N and the ladie reccomended the 9 inch thats 3.37 inches high for the edelbrock carb: part#60-1110,but she did not seem sure of herself. The price was $89 but cheaper at my local dealer she said.Thats not bad since the Edelbrock set up I was looking at was $73.Any and all suggestions would help.

The more filter surface area the better! I'd go with the 11" or even a 14" filter.

I have seen in my Edelbrock 600 carb handbook that if you use the 14" K&N with the Edelbrock breather the carb breathes with no reduction in air flow. In other words if you set your carb without a filter wich most people do (due to limited space with it on) and then put your stock filter back on it wont be set right due to air restriction. I use the K&N 14" with the Edelbrock breather on my Edelbrock carb. Hope you can understand my warped explanation. smile.gif

It does make a difference. If the Edlebrock carb uses an air valve, then that will be effected. Other than that, it shouldn't effect tuning. It should provide some small performance advantage however because its less restrictive.

Right on with use the largest surface area. Which one will depend on the air cleaner housing you plan to use. Or, get a housng to go with the size you want and how much room you have.

I have a Edelbrock Pro Flo air cleaner with is 14" across and 4" tall ATM. Although you can put a taller filter on if you wanted. I noticed a nice differance in top end compaired tot he stock air cleaner which sucked air through a 1.5" hole.

My advice is to get the biggest K&N that will fit on your rig. When it comes to air filters bigger is better. They also make a filter you can run your axles, transmission and transfer case vents into. And as far as the cost difference the extra life you get out of your engine by protecting it is worth the extra cost of a good filter. After all it's a one time investment in your engine.

I have a 14"x~3" K&N. make sure you get one of the 360 degree ones and not the one that fits inside the stock air cleaner housing. $86 sounds like a lot Mine was about 70 bucks, it came w/ the cleaner housing, w/out the cleaner housings its about 35-40 bucks.

64trvlr: How bad is it if all those vents don't go into the K&N? When I put my K&N on a couple years back, I just plugged up any hose/vac line that was running into the cleaner housing....

The vent lines I was talking about are the breather vents on the axles, transmission and transfer case. The vents need to be open and not plugged, usually they have a little vent on the axle tube or on the trans/xfer case. The K&N I mentioned has 3 tubes to run lines to from the driveline. That way when the component heats and cools pulling air in and pushing it out it gets filtered air not dirt. The driveline will live longer that way especially if you off road much.
