Does anyone out there run side pipes on their FSJ? As I lay under the Grand, looking at the leaks, I notice that the exhaust system is in the way everywhere. It's in the stock position right now. There doesn't seem any better way to route the exhaust (without moving the gas tank or other stuff), except maybe side pipes. Anyone try this? Or know of outside the frame headers?

Scotteac runs some on his, looks pretty good, too.
my roommate runs them on his 76 chero w/ 401. the problem he has is that they have to dip below the frame...which means loss of ground clearance!

Do you already have dual exhaust? I haven't seen anything out there that keeps the cat. if so. I have some from JCWhitney on my J. The kit came with everything and included a couple of regular glaspak mufflers. They bolted on to the stock manifold, and have a bend in them to run just behind the spring mount out to the side. They didn't fit real well when I installed them. I worked with the hangers to try to get it right, but I ultimately had to much deflection at the collector connection and blew out the doughnuts 2 or 3 times. Ultimately, I had a local muffler shop re-make the pipe and it worked out OK. They aren't level with the bottom of the rocker, but they sound pretty cool for a rusty old truck with a decent motor. I think if I had to do it over again, I'd just take it to the muffler shop and let them do it complete. They only charged me $100 and basically re-made all the tubing. All I have now is the mufflers and hardware. One thing to consider is they really resonate inside the cab since the exit is right behind the door. And, any rear-entering folks get their pant legs nice and aromatic from the exhaust.
