IF I drop the pan to change the filter and seal, I have 2 questions.
How much fluid will release? I am thinking I read 4-6 qts??
Second. I *may* adjust the bands... Easy to do? Good to do?? Trans has about 75,000 miles and slips shifting into 3d. Especially when hot!
Any other suggestions for this weekend project getting ready for the OURAY STOMP!

you will drop 4 qts you have to drop the valve body to adjust the rear band the front band is outside the case get a book it is not that hard and it will most likley fix the 3rd shift problem

I welded a coupling for a drain plug to my tranny pan when I had it off to do the same work. Makes it a lot less messy to work on the tranny the next time. I have a 727, in my case I did not have to remove the valve body to adjust the bands although that does not mean it is not required on your vehicle. There was one just above the linkage externally and the other inside. This is a brief description HERE (http://www.nwbinders.net/Tech/TF727BandAdjustment.html) but there are better threads in this forum on the subject.

btw, I did a search on Bands, Band and BAnd adjustment here, lots of info!!
Do I 'have' to have the special square socket??
Thanks, OK. I will drop about 4 qts +/-. With the pan off, I will clean the inside? Wipe it down, lossen crud? The filter looks to be no problem.
Bands. Adjust them both? I would assume so. The rear band is not so accessable. The front band is.
I did read the link. It helped. Thanks for and and all tips!!

Ernzo check th lip of the trans pan very carefully.Make sure it's straight.I had to replace mine because it had a hairline crack next to one of the rear bolts(probably from letting the pan hang over time to drain).Got lucky though local trans shop sold me one for $20.

They make drain plug kits; I highly recommend buying one.
