I need a new vacuum modulator. I went to the local AutoZone and they told me that it is unavailable. Will any modulator for a TH400 work? JC Whitney has one by B & M that will fit th400 trans, but the little nipple thing where the hose goes is on top instead of on the side like the original. Will that one work?

They are the same no matter what vehicle they are in all the TH400 are the same. I just called my local Checker auto and they have them in stock and yes the B & M is also compatible and is adjustable. I would look for a new parts store if they told you that part is no longer available By the way Checker price was around $20.00 for it

If you still have the original modulator on your tranny then the new one will look much smaller. Some of the 400's had an extension for the modulator and you will need to remove that in order for the new one to work right. If you have ever seen the size of the stock modulator then you will see why they needed the extension.

I went to the local Auto Zone and asked for a vac modulator for my 78 Chero with the TH400...they didn't have one for the Jeep but had one for the Chevy TH400...and it works great - no problems. It was a tad shorter than the original but everything else was just fine...

Yup Rudy the elbow is what I'm talking about. I removed the elbow and went with a straight TH400 modulator.

Reason is the rod that that goes inside the tranny that the elbow connects to. My friends was either longer or shorter than the non elbow rod. Foget wat it was but we just yanked a junker rod with the smaller modulator. Ya the original was HUGE. Thats why it needed the elbow.
